Superlatively Determined Gamers Still Playing Halo 2

Halo 2, released in 2004, was a historic game in the progression of online multiplayer first person shooting game, and it kept its following for years, right up to the middle of this month, when Microsoft ended its Xbox Live support for titles and services corresponding to the original Xbox.

But, as Eurogamer reports, there are still a dedicated few fighting the good fight with needlers blazing, and by now they’ve had their Xboxes on nonstop for eleven days.

From the Halo 2 forums at Bungie.net:

(As long as we don’t turn off our Xbox’s, or lose connection, we can stay online. Our Xbox’s have been on for nearly 11 days straight) Each day the amount of people [has] decreased, at a rapid rate.

A lot of us became really good friends, and it’s almost like we’re family now.
For a while, we had ‘T0 Be Continued’ Live streaming all of our games, until her Xbox regrettably froze while playing custom games.

As of yesterday, at about 5pm California time, there were still sixteen intrepid souls clinging to the XBox servers, laughing in the face of connection problems and hardware overheating.  What was it Shakespeare said about this sort of thing?  He used to love FPSs.  Oh, yes:

If we are mark’d to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God’s will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
