The Drums of War Thunder: Cataclysm Beta Invites Sent to Press

World of Warcraft fans who are hanging onto Blizzard‘s promise that the new expansion to it’s historic MMORPG will be released some time this year can take hope: members of the gaming press have started to receive beta opt-ins.

From Kotaku:

The WoW developer is “starting to gear up for the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm beta,” accepting sign ups for the early look at the expansion until April 15 for members of the media. April 15 is not the actual date the beta would go live, we should note, as Blizzard does “not currently have a date to announce for the start of the beta test.”

News that the beta is imminent dovetails nicely with announcements made in the World of Warcraft forums; promising a slow reveal of the expected changes to each of the game’s ten classes.  The class updates started today and will wrap up on the 16th, a day after the deadline for media opt-ins.

As Kotaku stresses, this round of beta invites are ONLY going to the press, and there is still NO announced start date for the beta.  If you are not a member of the press and you receive a Cataclysm beta email, it IS a scam.  Don’t follow its instructions.

But we’re sure you’re much too savvy of an internet user to fall for something like that.
