I have to say, I really love how Arnold Schwarzenegger has chosen to spend his post-political career. He’s already filthy rich, his reputation is in tact, and now he’s making cartoons with Stan Lee. Because he can. And today it was announced that the former head writer of SpongeBob SquarePants Steven Banks will coming on board as The Governator‘s main scribe. We posted about this previously (I’ll include the trailer again after the jump), and seemed skeptical. But now? Now this just gets better and better.
The former governor had this to say about Banks’ hiring (and per Internet law, it must be read in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s accent):
“Throughout my career, whether it has been in body building, movies or politics, my philosophy has always been to bring together the best specialized talent to create projects that people will love. Having Steven on board to head up the writing for ‘THE GOVERNATOR’ series is a fantastic next step.”
In addition to spending six years doing SpongeBob SquarePants, Banks has also worked on other animated hits including Nickelodeon‘s The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron and CatDog, so his experience speaks for itself. No release date has been announced yet (except for a vague “late 2012,” but there are discussions for a comic book and a full-length 3D movie.
I love it. Arnold Schwarzenegger just wants to do fun stuff now. Yeah, there’s money in it. Nothing is 100% pure. But imagine if this has been his dream all along — making cartoons. And now he can. That’s awesome.
