It’s Carrie Fisher’s Birthday, Here’s a Clip of Her Star Wars Audition

I constantly forget that Carrie Fisher was only nineteen when she made Star Wars, alongside co-stars six to twenty-four years her senior. She’s still a total boss in this interview tape, showing us the level at which Leia is completely aware of the political, military, and psychological consequences of her and the Rebellion’s actions and goals.

Happy Birthday, Ms. Fisher, and many happy returns!

I wonder how silly one might feel saying this dialogue in a pre-Star Wars society. Did she think this could be the cinematic equivalent of a budget Flash Gordon episode or the major blockbuster it became?

Poor thing – she had such a hard time after those movies, and even during filming – especially Jedi. Happy birthday to her, and many many more!

She was nineteen when she made those movies?  I used to watch them and go, pssh, Luke and Leia can’t be twins, she’s so much older than he is.  Not that Carrie Fisher looked old, per se, I guess she has a very sophisticated, mature face and Mark Hamill looks like he’s twelve. Because I was convinced she was several years older than him.

Apparantly Harrison Ford told Lucas one day “you can write this shit, but you can’t say it.”

Also, the way she bosses him around. But it makes sense. Leia was raised as a princess, involved in politics and strategy and she probably saw the world a lot. Luke on the other hand grew up a farm boy, daydreaming between chores and bullseying womp rats in his T-16.
