Catwoman is a Playable Character in Batman: Arkham City

I mean, are we talking about Catwoman or are we talking about Catwoman?

I could have done without the ass shots.

However, as a female reader I have to say that this did appeal to me significantly. I don’t game often but if I did I would want a powerful, strong female lead, and it looks like this Catwoman does a great job. Her costume is sexy but it looks pretty durable and with places to hold weapons, and thank god protection from the cold (if she zips up sometimes). 

She is using her body as a way to gain power over men, just like Catwoman in the comics. And I have no problem with that. Kick ass, kitty cat.

“I” statements are really useful in these situations.

I can’t say I’m any more interested in the franchise now that I’ve seen that ad (well, part of that ad, it was too irritating to watch the whole thing) than I was before.  I find the ad pretty damned insulting and openly meant for the boyz.  I had zero interest in the first game because one only plays Batman (*yawn*), now, one can play Catwoman for part of the game, and…it’s *this* hyper-sexualized sort of Catwoman.  There’s using one’s sexual appeal as a tool in one’s arsenal, then there’s men designing the women characters of their porno dreams who so overdo it it’s…well, not my cup of tea.

I have never gone from ‘Ooh!’ to ‘..oh..’ so quickly. 

I loved the first game, and I love Catwoman, so this was an exciting prospect. This trailer was incredibly insulting, from the ass shots to the crappy music. I can see that they went with the Adam Hughes influenced Selina Kyle (which is perfect) but they presented her in a way that was just comically offensive to female gamers. A woman using her body to over power men is no sexier than a man using his body to overpower women. Games and comics need to stop striving to have “strong female characters” and start working towards “strong characters, female.” Why can’t a superheroine be in a game/comic/movie without her being some stereotypical pornstar fantasy? I’ve followed Catwoman comics for a while and she’s never acted in the many she did in this trailer. Sure, she’s suppossed to be attractive, but this was just too far. It’s a shame really, I’m still going to play it, but I’m going to prepare myself to be pissed off.

P.S. Seriously, somehow I almost laughed and vomited at the same time when she used that kiss attack or whatever it was. Selina would never kiss some gross Arkam thug just for the heck of it in the middle of combat.

Hm. I may be alone here, but I really liked that trailer and it made me more excited for B:AC. Then again, I’ve long loved Batman and Catwoman.

I mostly noticed that they cut out the “I’m your prostitute’ line from the song.

Catwoman’s always been a sexualized character, so I don’t mind at all that she uses her sexuality as one of her assets but… It also seems to be implying that she has no STANDARDS, which is more than a bit annoying… (Kiss move– HONESTLY? WHY?)

And the disappointment is what I get for thinking, “Oh, it CAN’T be as bad as all that.”

And I’ve long wished she would zip up her catsuit. There are plenty of ways for her tits to be attractive AND covered. The open catsuit is lazy and inefficient.

That kiss move is bullshit. Why would she kiss an ugly, smelly and dirty crazy street thug?

She did play the sexy card ever since the beginning, but that does not mean she has no standards.

I am angered. I feel that we need all need to write RS and tell them what a huge mistake they are making. I was very excited for this trailer…and then I watched it.

As a female gamer I really want to like that RS put Catwoman as a
playable character in BA2… but seriously does every female in a major
title have to have her boobs exploding out of her shirt!? or wearing
skimpy barely there outfits!? Catwoman is already in a skintight suit, I
think we got sexy covered. A strong, sexy female character doesn’t need
and shouldn’t have to have skin showing to maker her a strong sexy
female. WTF is that kiss move? @Eric Bazilio already said it perfectly: why kiss a smelly, dirty, crazy street thug? Catwoman looks to have some kicka** moves already, so why add some lame kiss distraction move. Come on! So freaking lame-o.

Sadly, if you will only play games where you can play female characters that aren’t sexualised, you may as well buy the new Peppa Pig game or something.

You are absolutely entitled to your own opinions on the matter.

There is no other type of Catwoman. Maybe you’re thinking of the Huntress or Black Canary.

It’s entirely possible that we’ve both read through most or all of the comics containing Catwoman and come to different conclusions on how Catwoman would act and whether the boyz at RS created a faithful rendition.
