Just Go With It

Two actresses we like very much are headed into horror town soon. Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey and Agents of SHIELD’s Ming-Na Wen have both landed roles in scary movies but let’s talk about these plots…

Headey has signed on for an adaptation of Jacqueline Ess: Her Will And Testament, one of Clive Barker’s Books of Blood. According to Digital Spy, “The story centres around the titular housewife, who discovers that she has the ability to alter people’s bodies with her mind. She is able to give people the ultimate sexual experience – one that is also fatal. It follows the woman’s journey, as well as that of a man who is obsessed with her.”

I haven’t read the book but that sounds like it could go terribly wrong or subvert the usual tropes and go very right. But here’s the full description (SPOILERS) from Wikipedia:

Jacqueline Ess is a housewife who attempts suicide after becoming bored with her life. She recovers only to find that she has an ability to change people’s body shapes simply with her mind. She accidentally kills her therapist and then – somewhat less accidentally – kills her husband, simply by willing their bodies into tearing apart or folding in on themselves. One man becomes obsessed with her and tracks her down. Jacqueline eventually becomes a prostitute, her abilities giving her the power to give men the ultimate sexual experience, albeit one that always proves fatal. She has by now lost control of herself and has to be watched while sleeping in case she unconsciously mutilates her own body. The man obsessed with her eventually makes love to Jacqueline and they willingly die together by Jacqueline’s powers.

Ummm…hmmm.

Barker said of Headey, “As far as I’m concerned, there is no better choice of actress for the role of Jacqueline. Her beauty and authority will carry the day.” The film will be directed by newcomer Jovanka Vukovic. We shall see…

Another woman we love to watch is also about to star in a horror film. Deadline says Wen has joined the cast of 6 Miranda Drive, also starring Kevin Bacon and Radha Mitchell. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the plot of this one “centers on a family that unwittingly brings a fear-feeding supernatural force with them when they return from a Grand Canyon vacation.”
