Real Or Not Real?

Characters From Classic Disney Movies Pose With Their Real-Life Counterparts

[View All on One Page]

And when I say “real-life counterparts” I mean the people who modeled for Disney’s artists, not the characters themselves, which sadly still do not exist in the real world. Shame. I want to see the Mad Hatter and Peter Pan prank the heck out of Prince Charming. Get on that, Once Upon a Time.

Redditor jamieleto posted the pictures found behind the cut, wherein stills from Snow White, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, and more are spliced together with pictures of the models used by the illustrators for reference. It’s a pretty cool blast from the past, not to mention how awesome the giant scissors they built for Tinkerbell are.

The poor actor playing Prince Philip. That must’ve been uncomfortable.

Sweet! And artists take note: Even Disney animators need references! For some reason the idea that using photographic references is plagiarism has been floating around. Yeah, you can’t just make a copy of a photo and call it a day (that is plagiarism), but there’s nothing at all wrong with using the photo for pose/motion reference.
