Florence Pugh is the new Tom Cruise, I’ve said it!

Jumping off a building is nothing new for Tom Cruise. And now the new biggest star in Hollywood is showing that they have what it takes to take on the king of stunts. No, I’m not talking about Glen Powell.
Florence Pugh has played Yelena Belova in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Black Widow. The baby sister of Natasha Romanoff, she is our new Widow and pretty iconic. But doing fight sequences isn’t all that Pugh is known for. She brings a warmth to Yelena that has instantly made her a fan favorite. Now thought, she’s coming for Cruise’s title.
A new featurette for the new movie Thunderbolts* shows Pugh on the top of one of the tallest buildings in the world. There, she is working on a stunt where she has to “free” fall from the top. Given the insurance risk of it all, she’s strapped in and protected, but Pugh is still up incredibly high, dropping down as Yelena would.
The stunt itself is cool but Pugh doing it herself is…so much cooler. Look, I am very afraid of heights and so to see someone embrace getting to test themselves and their abilities for a role is pretty iconic and this just shows how dedicated Pugh is to the role of Yelena. And it makes for good publicity! Much like Cruise doing his own stunts.
Thunderbolts* is coming
A final trailer for Thunderbolts* was released that shows more of the emotional weight of the film. We already kind of new about the Void and the big showdown between Marvel’s anti-heroes and their biggest foe but we get to see how Yelena is dealing with it all. She is Nat’s little sister and has the same kind of upset and pain that her sister had. And she’s second guessing herself and her abilities.
Seeing a younger Yelena (played by Violet McGraw) felt like a punch to the gut. She still has those same desires to have a family and be loved but now she has the added weight of being forced to be a “hero” and not having her sister to turn to. All of it makes me emotional!
The stunt with Pugh jumping off a building just to dive into a trailer designed to make me cry? Thunderbolts* really is going to be THAT movie and I cannot wait to see what Pugh and the team at Marvel have in store for me. Just…protect Yelena Belova, okay?
