Take 13 Minutes to Learn About the Sister Suffragettes of American History [VIDEO]

John Green‘s crash course in women’s suffrage is quite good, and it’s absolutely no fault of his that I was semi-distracted through the entire thing by “Sister Suffragette” from Mary Poppins running through my head. That song is quite the earworm.

I really hope they do a video on LGBT rights when they get to the latter half of the 20th century.

Very instructive video. I’ll keep it someplace to show it to my niece in a few years. It’s easy to forget how hard others fought for rights that seem so obvious now that we fail to exercize them.
Recommended watch: Iron Jawed Angels. While romanticized in parts, it’s a pretty interesting account of the last few years of the fight for women’s right to vote.

Perhaps when he’ll talk about the carter era/70′s, he can make a side chapter referencing the movement like he did with the chinese american during the immigration video.

Good video summary. It would be worthwhile for him to acknowledge that Sanger (like many others of her time, both male and female) was a supporter of eugenics, and that part of the motivation for promoting birth control in that era was preventing “inferior” women (non-white, immigrant, lower-class) from reproducing.

I bet there will be at least one video about the Civil Rights movements of the 60s and 70s that will also feature Stonewall as well as MLK and the feminist movements.
