I know it wasn’t meant to be scientific or anything, but for a video attempting to answer whether men or women are better at sound effects, I was surprised to see that ALL the chosen sound effects were related to classically “male” interests. Not that I, a female, don’t have a perfectly good lightsaber or laser gun sound effect ready to go at a moment’s notice, but I realize not all women are like me. Boys from an early age are encouraged to play games that require them to mimic the sounds of guns, swords, cars, sirens, robots, etc., but girls who play those games are still seen as outliers. I don’t really know what sound effects they could have included to level the playing field (um, hair dryer? washing machine? baby crying? teacup clinking?), but given that some of the women didn’t even know what a laser gun sounded like (completely understandable, as they don’t exist), they needed a little more variety. Still a fun video, anyway.

I was thinking the same thing. The men have had practice since they were kids, and I’m willing to bet that most of the women were not of the nerdy type who might have joined in with the boys in playing Star Wars, or Race Car Driver.

I think animal sounds would level the playing field some. Also some appliances (vacuum cleaner would’ve been a good one), nature sounds like wind or rain, maybe a flash bulb going off or mimicking instruments.

Really though, guys are expected to be louder than girls when they play as children so the guys probably would do better regardless.
