Twilight Is Almost Over, Host Fever Begins [TRAILER]

I have no problem admitting I’ve read Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series (yes, even that bit online from Edward’s point of view). I don’t think it’s classic literature, but I enjoyed it for what it was. What I haven’t read is Meyer’s previous novel, The Host, which has a very Invasion of the Body Snatchers-type premise. I haven’t heard great things about it, but Summer Entertainment has timed its release very well to coincide with the ending of the Twilight Saga films. It stars Saoirse Ronan in the lead role though, and I adore her. Good trailer if nothing else?

As much as I dislike what the movies did to Twilight, it was an enjoyable guilty pleasure that I’ve had to hide because of the movies. I loved The Host though but I’m obsessed with sci-fi…Its worth a look!

Remember how everyone was torn when the “Snow White and the Huntsman” trailer came out because it looked so good but starred Kristen Stewart?

lol it’s super romantic when you fall in love with the only other hetero on the planet. I tend to like contrived love stories or the hand of fate stepping in, but “I haven’t spoken to another human being in two years,” is not just bad writing, it’s also kinda unromantic, in my opinion.

That is not what I thought Melanie looked like…

Agreed. Most of them seem a little young.

I get the reflexive hate towards this, I definitely do.

But given that its been adapted and directed by Andrew Niccol -director/writer of Lord of War and In Time- I’m willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.

I don’t expect it to have an interesting premise but I wouldn’t be that surprised to see some interesting imagery or performances.

You may consider me solidly “Team Visser 3.”

But this is terrifying, because it shares the name of the great Bong Joon Ho/Song Gang Ho monster movie The Host. Now, anyone who finds many of my many internet posts raving about how great The Host is will think I’m totally into this movie. I’ll just have to console myself with your previously-reported news that Song Gang Ho and Bong Joon Ho teamed up again for Snow Piercer.

  • Ashe P. Samuels

Yeah, I don’t know how I’d react if someone told me that was their reason for being into me.

    What they said…

That and… Stephanie Meyer actually wrote a book with a female protagonist who is actually proactive? Because… this seemed like something I’d watch.

Of course, almost everyone in that trailer is WHITE… >_>

I actually really liked The Host, and thought Meyer did a great job with it. It’s no easy feat to have two distinct protagonists who share the same body, and I thought she did it pretty well. Granted, I expect the movie to screw all that up, but that’s par for the course these days.

I’ve not read this, but isn’t the whole story that this person, who’se body and mind are occupied by a different sentience against her will, falls in love with them?
Because that really seems like Meyer wrote a story about a girl who falls in love with her rapist. And not that it couldn’t be a good story or told well, but with Meyer’s track record, it seems really problematic.

When I read the back of the book, my mind went
to Animorphs as well. Good to see I wasn;t the only one.

  • Ashe P. Samuels

Well, if there were any people of color in the trailer, we know they’d be the first to die off/be a minor character. Don’t want any spoilers now!

I’m actually kinda interested in this. I love watching Saoirse on screen and seeing her might override my kneejerk reaction to avoid anything remotely connected to Twilight.
