Tumblr Redesign Coming To A Dashboard Near You

Jumping on Tumblr this morning, you may have noticed a change. Starting today, the site is rolling out an updated dashboard. It will allow users to post a photo, video, quote, etc. without having to actually leave the dashboard. You can see what that looks like above. If you have multiple blogs you can access all of them in the same spot. Tumblr told Mashable this is “a step toward making the Dashboard a smaller and more streamlined experience.” I’ve yet to get the updated look, have you?

That’s nice and all but I’d rather tumblr work on integrating the features of missing e and tumblr savior instead, rather than being assholes to those of us who depend on those plugins for a decent “tumblr” experience. This is just a cosmetic change, and looks nice, and is useless. Tumblr, don’t start pulling a livejournal on us.

I haven’t seen the upgrade yet, but it could explain some of the lag I experienced last night.

Same. Missing e already gave us most of this stuff, and I get that Tumblr has some sort of unholy vendetta against missing e and might want to render them obsolete, but… just give us some NEW feature. Chat capability, SOMETHING, Karp.

this change is the literal worst. it provides no improvements whatsoever. i can no longer publish messages unless i delete missing e, so its really obviously at least partially an attempt to make missing e unusable which is so fucking petty and unnecessary. karp is the worst and the tumblr team in general is the actual worst.

I wouldn’t mind this new change. I just wish people would already shut up about it because they found it too difficult to handle. -.-

I’m not a big fan of how Tumblr keeps trying to make changes that could draw outsiders in but always affect actual users negatively – I’m not on Tumblr because it’s streamlined or because it’s like Twitter or Google+ or Facebook. It’s a blogging platform and most of their aesthetic and infrastructure changes actually make it harder for users to connect and use Tumblr as a blogging platform. I don’t know, I guess I just wish that instead of finding out information via third parties, Tumblr users could actually address Tumblr staff and find out why the heck they keep making these changes instead of fixing real problems on their site.

I wouldn’t mind the change, if it hadn’t removed functionality I use: the tag auto-completion is gone now, which makes any attempt at consistent tagging system a major pain in the A.
Seriously, who thought that Ajax-ified editbox is worth ditching something as vital as tag auto-complete??? AND the html editor is still a window pop-up. I have no words.

This is the most hateful, user-hostile, counterintuitive update tumblr
has ever made. You can’t reblog as text without jumping through flaming
hoops. You can’t add gifs without similar issues. You can’t use
autocomplete tags. You can’t do ANYTHING easily anymore. They’ve removed
handy features and useful services like Missing E- which provide
services tumblr should give us themselves- have been rendered useless. It’s almost like they WANT to get rid of us. In which case they’re doing a damn good job of it.
