Have you been missing Torchwood since its final installment, Miracle Day, in 2011? Perhaps you’ve been keeping up with the adventures of Captain Jack Harkness in the official Torchwood audio dramas from Big Finish? Now, those adventures continue in a new, ongoing comic written by Captain Jack himself!

John Barrowman, who brought Captain Jack to life on Doctor Who as well as through four seasons of Torchwood, will be writing the comic along with his sister, Carole E. Barrowman, and in the gallery above, we’ve got a preview of the awesome covers for Issue #1, which will be released this summer! It will be in continuity with the Big Finish audio dramas, and will be the official continuation of the Torchwood saga.

Here’s the official synopsis from Titan Comics:

The hotly anticipated Torchwood comic sees Captain Jack return to Cardiff to engage the help of the last person who expected to see him again, Gwen Cooper! A dark technology from a forgotten species has been claimed by a conspiratorial power… and in this collision between an ancient civilization and an all-new evil, the Earth itself may be forfeit! Only Jack, Gwen, and their allies from what remains of Torchwood hold the key to stopping a cataclysmic wave of destruction… On the road, on the run, and under fire – can Jack and Gwen put aside their differences and rebuild the heart of Torchwood…before its flame is stamped out forever?!

Joining the Barrowman siblings on this title are artists Antonio Fuso (Drive, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest) and Pasquale Qualano (Batman ’66, She Hulk, Harley Quinn). Issue #1 features a main cover by Tommy Lee Edwards, and variants by Elena Casagrande, Blair Shedd, and Rod Reis.

Titan has already been bringing it with their various Doctor Who titles, particularly in giving us a new home for the Ninth Doctor, who doesn’t get nearly as much love as he deserves! Now, I expect that they’ll do equally right by Torchwood, giving us a new way to experience these characters and stories. I’m excited!

Torchwood will be available to comics retailers in the May PREVIEWS, and will be in stores July 6th.
