For only $20, you, too, can have Darth Vader’s awkward vacation photos on a t-shirt. (Fashionably Geek)

  • Sigourney Weaver reveals there was an early R-rated cut of Galaxy Quest, and that she doesn’t know if it still exists. By Grabthar’s hammer, by the suns of Warvan, you shall be avenged, R-rated cut of Galaxy Quest. (Blastr)

I hope they don’t adapt Mockingjay – or Catching Fire, for that matter.

They *really* didn’t come close to THG, plus I can’t see CF going down too well – it’s just THG Attempt No. #2

That they originally had an R rating in mind for Galaxy Quest should be a no-brainer to anyone who’s seen the existing one.  Just watch Sigourney’s mouth when she sees the chompers.  She’s obviously not saying “screw this” despite the audio overdub.

That Paul Duffield article is a fantastic read, and definitely worth your time.  He explores the notion of the glass ceiling being something complacent and without malice, and yet being totally unacceptable.  Money quote: “THIS is how a glass ceiling works – invisible and inescapable. This is sexism at its most powerful, not in the hands of an individual or group to whom it’s easy to point a finger, but perpetuated by social momentum, financial conservatism, and that social impulse we all have to gather in groups of similar people. Everyone who buys, reads and creates comics unwittingly colludes in it, regardless of their gender or their predilections.”

Comics as a medium, for whatever reason, has decided to be the industry of “that’s how it’s always been.”  Instead they should be asking, “why has it always been this way?” and then making some necessary changes.  They routinely feature things that make no sense but have 80 years of history behind them, so they remain unchanged. That attitude unfortunately infiltrates every aspect, from marketing to hiring.  Why are there no female centric books (I’m being reductive, roll with it)?  Because there never have been.  Being the person to put your hand up and offer something new isn’t easy, but it is so very necessary.

I think its interesting that they want to turn Mockingjay into two movies. Or are discussing it rather. Really the first book could have been two movies. Mockingjay seemed more compact to me. Man that movie cannot get here fast enough. I don’t want to click that Firefly link, it will only in the end annoy me.

Speaking of Joss Whedon, I’ve heard several people talking about Cabin In The Woods which was screened recently. Mostly those people have been saying ‘Holy shit it’s amazing!’ Just thought that was worth knowing for horror fans.

I’m still reserving my judgement on HG though I am looking forward to it. Collins has said that the film adaptation and books are sort of companion pieces to each other so I’m keeping that in mind and not expecting a direct transcription of book to film.  I’d love to see a two parter MJ simply because I’m hoping for an improvement on the book, which I thought was way too rushed and far too focused on Katniss (unavoidable, of course, considering how the books are written).

That really was a very illuminating read. I was under the same impression that he was in regards to assuming that indie publishers would have a much better ratio of male/female creators.

So who’s going to go to the elephant in the room and draw Dinklage as Puck?

I can’t wait for ALL-THE-WHEDON!  Between Avengers, Cabin in the Woods and Much Ado About Nothing…oh the joy.
