    That Bitch article presents a false dichotomy with SPOILER Dany’s labor. She doesn’t realize she’s giving up her baby, or her fertility, when she strikes the bargain. Mirri Maz Duur is just as much an oppressive external force as SPOILER Rosemary Woodhouse’s devil-baby conspirators, not least because she poisons Drogo in the first place.

    Whereas Twilight features a conscious choice by the protagonist to let herself die for the sake of her unborn child, suffering horribly for it, yet finally being rewarded for it by all her dreams coming true.

    Too be fair, there are a lot of mothers (and expectant mothers) who would put the life of their child before their own, and for the most part society doesn’t condemn them for it. It’s all a matter of priorities, really. Some of us are willing to suffer for what at the time is not really a child yet, some of us are not.

    I’m very pro-choice, and the article does have a point when it says that choosing to have the baby despite the risks is a valid choice as well. I really am not sure if I could or would choose that, however, because while the loss of the child would not be easy, my family and friends and soon-to-be husband would probably feel worse if I sacrificed myself for it to live.
