Things We Saw Today: A Man Wearing A TARDIS Suit

We’ve seen our fair share of women donning TARDIS dresses but I think this is the first time I’ve seen a man dressed up as a fancy dress TARDIS. Well, it happened this weekend at C2E2 in Chicago. (via Kate Kotler

  • While we’re on the topic of cosplay, blogger JayRain wrote a really wonderful piece about “The Shame Game,” her thoughts on those who talk down about, make fun of, or demean those who don’t look exactly like the characters they’re portraying.  (via Geek Mom)

Hey, remember that time Batwoman tried to give Batgirl a life lesson (in the style of Lauren Fausts Super Best Friends Forever) and it went right over Batgirl’s head?

Thank you, PixelKitties. (via Tallest Silver)

Today marks the 100th anniversary of the Titanic disaster. While the sinking of the famous ship was a sad day, cartoonist Kate Beaton made an interesting point on her Tumblr that I thought I’d share in a little “food for thought.”

That comic sums up everything that’s wrong with Babs’ SBFF incarnation. The “real” Babs is… not like that.

Nor would Steph, and she’s by far the better choice for such a cartoon, although with her retirement (bar Batman Inc., of course) it probably wouldn’t make much sense *and* DC did push a lot of her history to one side in the Batgirl series *and* it would possibly be a little unbalanced to have two blonde superheroines out of three.

Good comic, of course, but it does kind of hint towards a bigger problem.

    P.S. Steph <3 Kara.
P.P.S. Come on, they totally should have been a couple.
P.P.P.S. Don't look at me like that.

I seriously think it’s a problem that likely only you see. (Not to dismiss your feelings or the feelings of others who see it that way.) In fact I doubt the person who made it was trying to ‘illustrate an issue’ and was just trying to make something cute and funny.

I ADORE to itty bitty bits SBFF. It’s a fantastic way to introduce younger people to comics and comic book characters.

Comic book characters are constantly being rewritten, retold and redone. Every new writing of a character brings their own fresh changes to a character, intentional or not. So I find there is absolutely nothing wrong with re-imagining Batgirl as a hyper-spaz ditz. Nor do I see that as a ‘betrayal’ of her character (not to suggest that you even see it that way).

Now I’m not even sure what I’m getting at but I love SBFF. :P and this comic rocks.

with the exception of DC nation animated version shorts and this comic… its the first time i’ve seen this version of batgirl.  I had no problems with it and think its great.  Its almost like powerpuff girls.   Now at first it does take time to except the reimagined characters.

I had major problems with Battlestar Galactica at first.  That was mainly because i felt cheated about the continuation of the original being cancelled at the last minute.  But once you open yourself up to new possibilities you can see how funny the new DC comic actually is.

SBFF does rock, but that’s not Babs. The Batgirl in the actual cartoon? Not Babs, either. Supergirl and Wonder Girl are fairly close to their comic counterparts, but it seems like Batgirl’s silliness is way too Steph-like for me to see it as Babs.

What I meant was I think choosing Babs for that particular role was not the best choice as there are better incarnations of Batgirl for it.

That’s all. Not meant to be a big slight against the comic creator above nor Ms Faust, just me airing my problem(!) with the cartoon.
