The Physics of My Little Pony

We’ve read the Physics of Star Wars, the Philosophy of the X-Files, and the Science of Discworld (all three volumes of it). Is there anything more universally geeky than testing out your favorite setting against the known laws of the universe? And then, when it breaks, instead of abandoning it, creatively shoring up the cracks and testing it again? We used to give out prizes for that kind of thing.

It is in this spirit that we present to you a true geek accomplisment: The Physics of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

    I remember that time my Dad and I ended up discussing the biology of Alvin and the Chipmunks (classic 80s series), which quickly went over the top (or maybe “downhill”) when I brought up the Chipettes, mentioning their curiously more human features, and noting that their skin or pelt color was a lighter color, possibly indicating that they originated in a colder climate…

    “‘Colder climate,’ eh?” My Dad replied, “you mean like…Russia?!” (Mere italics don’t do the dramatic intonation justice)

    We eventually came to the conclusion that the Chipmunks were, in fact, the product of a fiendish Soviet bio-engineering experiment at creating beastial supersoldiers. Obviously a failure at that, they decided to salvage to program when it was realized their cute appearance and natural charm could be used for subversion and propaganda, making them stars in western pop culture was as a means to create a generation of fifth columnists. Dave was a sleeper agent and a communist patsy, and possibly the donor of the human DNA (or at least told he was, to ensure his loyalty), and the Chipettes were the more refined “second generation” of Chipmunk infiltrators, deliberately engineered to be more adorable.

    Yeah, we’re…like that.
