Wreck-It Ralph in 60 Seconds… and Live Action

Oh, good, well now I know what Wreck-It Ralph was about. Now if someone can just find me a supercut of all of Sergeant Calhoun’s scenes and maybe, like, the bit where Vanellope becomes president, I wont even have to watch the actual movie.

Yes, this video contains spoilers.

Wreck-It Ralph Gets Its Medal, Wins Big at the Annie Awards

Wreck-It Ralph was the King (Candy) at last night’s Annie Awards, beating out Brave and ParaNorman for Best Animated Feature. It was nominated alongside Hotel Transylvania, Frankenweenie, Rise of the Guardians, The Pirates! Band of Misfits, and The Rabbi’s Cat too, but honestly, did any of those have a chance? Actually, speaking realistically ParaNorman was a long shot as well, but I really (really really really… ) wanted it to win and may have deluded myself as to its chances a little.

Wreck-It Ralph: How Video Games Should Be?

In 108 minutes, Wreck-It Ralph accomplishes something the entire video game industry has failed to achieve for more than 30 years: Wreck-It Ralph contains more positive and nuanced female characters than the entire current video game landscape. Three major consoles. Hundreds of major and indie developers. Mobile and handheld gaming. Thousands of writers, programmers and artists. Millions, maybe even billions, in marketing dollars. All schooled by one movie.

I applaud the filmmakers, but I’m utterly baffled, because they made it look easy. And for so long, we have been told it’s “hard” to sell games with female characters we can look up to, care for and relate to. I think $49.1 million at the box office, which is Disney Animation’s highest opening weekend in history, tells a very different story. Listen up gamers, it’s time for a revolution.

Let’s start with Vanellope Von Schweetz and her home game, Sugar Rush.

Wreck-It, Paperman!: Technical Wizardry Saves Ralph From Skidding Off Course

If you need a November pick-me-up, or are just aching to have some fresh, red-hot, blaring pixels pumped straight into your cranium, then get your quarters ready and step up to the all-ages ride that is Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph. An opus to eight-bit games, and beyond, Ralph is a piece of bright, quick, kid-aimed fun. What it lacks in depth it more than compensates for in technical finish, bringing viewers to worlds that are so jam-packed with sugary details, you’re likely to get a toothache if you’re over the age of 10. Strictly family-friendly to the point of stating the obvious at every rubber-burning turn, be warned that if you’re seeking a cartoon with a touch of pathos, this isn’t your game, even if it is a good time.
