He’s played a Aramis, Apollo, and Zeus in his time but actor Luke Evans is ready to take on another classic role; that of Dracula in Universal’s vampire origin story. 

In case you missed it, Smash Pictures has made a Fifty Shades of Grey porn parody. Why did they need to make a porn parody of something that is already erotica? Well, because Universal Pictures has licensed the movie rights to Fifty Shades of Grey for their own movie adaptation, but planned as rated NC-17. The smaller studio was originally countersuing, but has just dropped its suit.

Which is good news for folks who write and enjoy fanfiction. Or for everybody who posts anything online, really, because their counter argument was that since Fifty Shades of Grey was initially publicly posted online as Twilight fanfiction, it was automatically part of the public domain.

So you may have heard that there’s a porn parody of Universal’s putative NC-17 rated Fifty Shades of Grey movie, even though Universal hasn’t even cast it yet. And some of those among you who were not aware are now surely nodding and saying “Yes, this was inevitable.” Well, it was also inevitable that Universal would sue the Fifty Shades porn parody for copyright and trademark infringement, which they are doing.

But what wasn’t inevitable was that Smash Pictures, the makers of Fifty Shades of Grey: A XXX Adaptation, would come up with an even moderately clever counter suit.

Look, I’m just gonna say it. Someone needs to shoot Arnold Schwarzenegger with some elephant tranquilizers and give him an intervention. The 65-year-old actor is going to reprise his role as Conan the Barbarian in a new film. This is just…I have no words. No wait, I do. BY CROM!

We were already super excited about ParaNorman, even before they sent us a zombie to unearth, but seeing some behind-the-scenes production work on the film is making us even more so. I freely admit to always having a fascination with stop-motion animation so ParaNorman is totally up my alley but I’ve never actually seen it being done. Remember that time I said it wasn’t worth complaining about reboots because there was absolutely no way of avoiding them? Get ready to halt any complaining now, because it was just announced that the Star Trek screenwriting dream team Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman will be serve as producers on reboots of The Mummy franchise as well as Van Helsing. Because, as we have all figured out, there is no reason to create original characters anymore, just take old ones and write new scripts.

It’s fan fiction, everyone. Hollywood has officially turned into a factory of big-budget fan fiction. By the way: Van Helsing will star Tom Cruise, so now it’s fan fiction and celebrities engaging in cosplay. Yup. Go ahead — try to deny that’s what it is.

With all the Game of Thrones hoopla these days, you may not be aware that author of the best-selling A Song of Ice and Fire series, George R. R. Martin, has also been involved with a long-running science fiction and superhero fantasy anthology as well. It’s called Wild Cards and it’s just been optioned for a movie by Syfy Films and Universal Pictures. The future is coming…? 

Guillermo del Toro‘s dream project, a film adaptation of At the Mountains of Madness subsided beneath the deeps three months ago, the eldritch whispers of its gestating emergence into reality fading with the news that Universal Pictures wasn’t willing to take the bet that del Toro could turn a profit on a $150 million R-rated movie.

However! del Toro, like a certain tentacle-faced high priest we could name, is steadfast in his determination to bring Lovecraftian horrors into the lives of each and every one of us.
