Wait, what?

Looks like you came here from Geekosystem. Don't worry, everything is still here. We've just combined forces with The Mary Sue to bring you more and better content, all in one place.

  1. In Preparation For The Singularity, Tomorrow Is Future Day

Meta-holidays are just so commercial now, you know?

Tomorrow is apparently "Future Day," and n0t just in the same way that today is present day. March 1st is an unofficial holiday for transhumanists, designed to "elevat[e]the human condition" and maybe help us prepare for the robot uprising.

  2. Man Implants Magnets Into His Ears to Use as Invisible Headphones

Listen, this is cool and all, but it's also a little creepy. Mostly cool.

Have you ever seen that Instructables article that teaches you how to make your own invisible headphones using magnets and a coil necklace with attached amplifier? Rich Lee, a self-described "grinder" who dabbles in body modification, decided to take the idea one step further and surgically implant those magnets into both of his ears. Now he wants to see just what he can do with this new set-up, which I guess is pretty awesome. It's also making the part of me that's really creeped out by the Borg, Cybermen, and similar biologic robot monsters kind of concerned, but we're still a long way from that...right? Right.

  3. Futurama Just Might Be the Best Argument Against Transhumanism [Video]

Look, I'm not going to pretend that I'm a font of knowledge when it comes to transhumanism. The idea's a neat one though. I think we can all agree on something: Sex and finding ways to stay alive longer are two things that most people spend a lot of time thinking about. Doctors of all stripes have been finding ways of connecting sexual activity to mental and physical health for years, so the idea that they're linked isn't crazy.  You know what is a little crazy, though? The idea that, like everything else in life, robots will eventually do a better job of using sex to make people live longer, healthier lives than people. According to the Center of Transhumanity, however, that's exactly what's going to happen.

  5. Finally: a Robotic Tail that Responds to Your Every Move

Japanese artist Ryota Kuwakubo has created the mother of all human mods: SiliFulin, a robotic tail that "react[s] to your movements using a series of servo motors to power the segments." According to CrunchGear, the tail is meant to recall the tail that every human has in the womb which they ultimately absorb before birth. Which brings up one key question: Does the SiliFulin count as transhumanism, or bioconservatism?
