My Spidey Sense Is Tingling

Puns, Villains, and Screaming Bryan Cranston In New Spider-Man, Godzilla Trailers [VIDEO]

The pun is in the final The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer, below the jump, and not the new international Godzilla poster, above. Which is a shame, because the latter’s screenwriters have really missed out on a chance to have a panicked civilian screaming “Oh my God… zilla!!” But I guess the Spider-Man movie with a director named “Webb” is the more fitting option for punnery.

And All Was Right With the World

Watch the Newest Trailer for 2015′s Best Animated Feature Oscar Winner, The BoxTrolls

At least it had damn well better be. Pixar doesn’t have a movie coming out this year to sweep the Oscar away from Laika like Brave did with ParaNorman. And look, I like Brave, but ParaNorman is, objectively speaking and without dispute, one of the best animated movies that has been or probably ever will be. There’ll be no competition from Disney, whose sole animated offering this year, to my knowledge, is the Planes sequel. So no. How to Train Your Dragon 2, barring extreme suckitude, will secure a nom. But the only movie that might beat The BoxTrolls, indie stop-motion fantasy movie with a trailer about gay parents o’ my heart, is The Lego Movie. Which I loved. It’s impossible to say I’ll love The BoxTrolls more, since I haven’t seen it yet.

But I’ll probably love The BoxTrolls more. Because it’s Laika. ParaNorman. Coraline. Stop-motion. And look at the trailer. Look at it.

it's time to play the music

Watch “We’re Doing a Sequel,” The Opening Song From Muppets Most Wanted [VIDEO]

We’re Doing a Sequel – Muppets Most Wanted Music Video on Disney Video

It’s intercut with some trailer stuff, like Disney doesn’t know you’re going to see Muppets Most Wanted anyway (you are, right?). And it’s as splendidly self-aware as I expect all Muppet movies to be. I may be dating myself here, but who’s the kid tossing the flowers at 00:50? He’s in all the trailers, and I have no clue what cameo I’m missing. I feel old.

Behind the cut you’ll find another Muppets Most Wanted promo vid, this one of Rowlf and Rizzo going through the drive-through at an ice cream shop. It’s exactly that. It’s funnier than it has any right to be.

This Is the Last Trailer Divergent Has to Convince You To See It

Here it is: The final trailer for Divergent, based on the first book in Veronica Roth‘s best-selling YA trilogy. When it comes out on March 21st, will you be in line? The way the studio’s releasing trailers and pics seemingly out into the ether makes me think we might have another The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones on our hands. Seriously, the only organic buzz I’ve heard about this movie is people talking about how it affects star Shailene Woodley playing Mary Jane in the Amazing Spider-Man sequels. But it could surprise me and be a big success. We’ll see.

All the Winter Soldier Trailers You Can Shake a Shield At

Somehow, during our annual eat unhealthy food and talk over the television party, I entirely missed any advertising acknowledgement of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, so I’m glad to see that the internet preserved everything for me, from the mournful solo violin playing our national anthem, to the full trailer itself, to the slightly different UK trailer.

Additional thoughts: Black Widow is awesome. When do the Falcon and War Machine get to high five, or at least go out for coffee to chat about caring for their emotionally damaged white best bros?

Watch the Trailer for The Zero Theorem, In Which Christoph Waltz Is I Don’t Even Know [VIDEO]

I feel like I know less about this movie now than I did before I watched the trailer. But ain’t that the way with Terry Gilliam?

Killer Computer Johnny Depp Is Coming For Us All In AI Thriller Transcendence [VIDEO]

Transcendence is the first feature-length film by frequent Christopher Nolan cinematographer Wally Pfister, who’s enlisted Nolan regulars Morgan Freeman and Cillian Murphy for his directorial debut. Also in the cast are Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall, Paul Bettany, and Kate Mara. If you want to see JARVIS and Maya Hansen turn Captain Jack Sparrow into a computer, this one is for you.

Under the jump you’ll find several teasers for the film, in which Depp, Freeman, and Mara argue whether superintelligent computers are OMG THE BEST THING EVER or the imminent destruction of mankind.

And So It Begins

The First Trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Looks Promising

By which I mean there’s not a whole lot to it, but Rise of the Planet of the Apes was excellent and there’s a brief shot of Gary Oldman shooting something, so bring it on. Bring it on like Donkey Kong.

Space travel space travel space travel space travel space travel space travel spaaaace travellllllll.

With a side dose of Matthew McConaughey, who in the last few years has proven that he is—wait for it—a good actor. A damn good actor, in fact. Also in the cast of Interstellar are (deep breath) Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, Wes Bentley, Casey Affleck, Topher Grace, Mackenzie Foy aka the demon kid from Twilight, John Lithgow, Ellen Burstyn, David Oyelowo, and (of course) Michael Caine. Suck it, The Dark Knight Rises.
