Teens React to Catching Fire Trailer

To say that there is a lot of buzz surrounding the next Hunger Games film is a serious understatement. After the massive success of the first film, the rest of the trilogy has singlehandedly  become the most widely anticipated YA-adaptation out there.

So the Youtube channel “REACT” did a “Teens React to Catching Fire” where they showed teenagers the new trailer, filmed their reactions, and asked them questions about how they feel about the movie. The fruit of their labor is this video.

Winter Is Coming

The Disney Frozen Teaser Trailer Gives Us a Sneak Peek at the Comic Relief

Disney’s Frozen, starring Kristen Bell as the voice of adventuring protagonist Anna, is set to come out on November 27 in the United States, and seems to be along the same  lines as Wreck It Ralph and Tangled as another Disney film using 3D computer animation independent of Pixar’s involvement.  We previously learned that, in the movie, Anna teams up with a mountain man named Kristoff, as well as the reindeer and snowman featured in the teaser above, to save her kingdom from an enchanted winter. I have to admit, though, the teaser reminds me a bit of Blue Sky’s Ice Age movies.  Hopefully that comparison will go away once we see the human characters in action, and get to hear Bell, Jonathan Groff, and Idina Menzel voicing the rest of the main cast.

New Trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Gives Us a Look at a Very Interesting Cast (Also, Magical Latte Art)

The new The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones trailer gives us a better idea of the plot of a new fantasy flick hitting theaters on August 21. In the film, Lily Collins plays Clary Fray, a young woman who discovers she is a half-angel and helps another “Shadowhunter,” played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers, kill demons.  Among the other cast members are CCH Pounder, Lena Headey as Fray’s mother, and Robert Sheehan as Fray’s friend. So far, I’m assuming the movie involves a mostly invisible Henry VIII killing demons with the help of Snow White and a very confused, be-spectacled version of Nathan from Misfits, but I haven’t read the bestselling series by Cassandra Clare that The Mortal Instruments is based on.
While we don’t get any Lena Headey, Queen of Westeros demon hunter like we did in the first trailer, there’s certainly enough action, fantasy, and intrigue to grab my attention. Plus, after hearing her stance on hollywood whitewashing, I have high hopes for a movie adaptation of the works of Cassandra Clare. Take a look.

My Precious!

New Elysium Trailer Might Make It My Most-Anticipated Movie of the Summer. Sorry, Pacific Rim. I Still Love You. [VIDEO]

My reaction to the first trailer for Elysium, Neill Blomkamp‘s follow-up to District 9, was “<Matthew McConaughey voice>All right, all right, all right,</Matthew McConaughey voice> this looks pretty cool.” My reaction to this new, longer trailer, which gives us a better look at the state of things for the 99 percenters living on Earth and the plight of poor Matt Damon? “Sweet dystopian Jesus, give it to me now.*

*Why yes, I do think in gifs. I spend too much time on Tumblr. That’s what happens.

Are You a Fan of Sci-Fi Animation? Here, We Have a Trailer For You. [VIDEO]

The trailer for The Congress has been around for a few weeks, since before the film’s debut at the Cannes Film Festival, but it just crossed my path following the announcement that the film’s been picked up for distribution by Drafthouse Films.

And… well… watch it. Loosely based on legendary sci-fi writer Stanisław Lem‘s The Futurological Congress, it follows actress Robin Wright, playing herself, as an actress who sells a digital version of herself to a movie studio, following which she finds herself trapped in a series of trippy animated fantasyscapes. The film’s director is Ari Folman, who’s taken animation to interesting places before with his excellent 2008 animated documentary Waltz with Bashir.

The Congress will be released theatrically and on VOD in 2014. Can that be early 2014, please, Drafthouse Films? Like January 1st?

I'll Allow It

Check Out the First Trailer for Karen Gillan’s Not Another Happy Ending [VIDEO]

Rom-com isn’t my usual genre of choice, I’ll admit*, but Karen Gillan‘s first post-Who movie, Not Another Happy Ending, looks… kinda cute? I mean, the male romantic lead seems like a jerk, and a clean-shaven Desmond Hume is causing me some major cognitive dissonance (even if Desmond wasn’t always scruffy on Lost, my mental vision of him is), but other than that… yeah. This might be a Thursday-afternoon-eating-snack-food-and-wearing-a-Snuggie movie.**

*Bridget Jones’s Diary holds a special place in my heart, though. And The Shop Around the Corner, for Jimmy Stewart reasons.

**Yes, I do own a Snuggie. Respect it. Respect the Snuggie!

NATO Wants Hollywood To Stop Giving Away the Ending in Trailers

Bloody Good Fun

Watch Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan Play A Mother-Daughter Vampire Duo in Byzantium [VIDEO]

I had the chance to see Byzantium last month, and I quited liked it. It’s nice to see a vampire movie that’s more a gothic adult fairy tale than an actioner or a paranormal romance (though Byzantium has elements of both). It comes out in theatrical limited release on June 28th, and I quite recommend it!
