The Venture Bros.

  1. 10 of the Most Hardcore, Eyepatch Wearing Characters in Geekdom

    Power Grid

Eyepatches have a long history of showing up on all sorts of characters, and most of the time they just make said character look even more badass. Sometimes we meet the character and they already have the eyepatch, and sometimes we are unbelievably horrified when a character who we’ve grown to love over the course of seven however many seasons loses an eye. As it turns out, there are a lot of characters in geekdom with eyepatches, many of whom are just cool, if not cooler, without their depth perception. Surprisingly, we couldn’t find a single pirate contender for our list, but we certainly encountered enough examples of the eyepatch of power to make up for it. Lets hear it for the runners up on this list: Doctor Who’s Madam Kovarian, King Lear’s Gloucester, and all the other characters who lost both eyes, and didn’t make our list. (Be warned, there are spoilers ahead. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Battlestar Galactica, and Venture Bros. fans, navigate with care.) Now feast your eyes on our list of amazing, eyepatch clad characters.

  3. The Story of the Venture Bros. So Far Is Really Complicated, Guys

    And So It Begins

This year, I got us all a present for my birthday. It's the return of The Venture Bros. You're welcome. But even though there are only four seasons of the show, and it's only a half hour long, any fan will be able to tell you that after a nearly three year hiatus, some things are a little fuzzy. Like... there was this orb that was important at one point, but then it turned out to be broken? And is Phantom Limb still at large or... And whatever happened to Baron Ünderbheit, is he still in the Revenge Society? How is Ünderland doing under the democratic rule of Girl Hitler? Have I forgotten about these things because they were brought up in minor ways, or because they were never brought up, and if so, is it because they're going to be important later or because the writers have actually found one of the few plot points that they don't feel like following up on? Welcome back to Venture Bros. Previously in The Venture Bros.

If you were unaware of the franchise, Telltale games makes Poker Night at the Inventory, and now a series where the player is set against a cast of four fictional characters for some way more interesting computer poker than usual. The characters are usually from all sorts of media, games, movies, and comics, complete with appropriate voice acting where possible. The first games tarred Tycho, Max, the Heavy, and Strong Bad. Now? Brock Sampson, Claptrap, Ash, and Sam. With everybody's favorite homicidal robot queen as dealer. And chief officer of sass. 6. Colonel Gathers Brings You a Hotplate of Boiling Love in This Sneak Peek of Venture Bros. Season Five

A friend and I were just discussion how one would even begin to explain the context of any thing in this video to someone who hadn't watched The Venture Bros. If these out of context snippets are presented to be weird and tantalizing for fans, I can't imagine how bizarre they look for someone who isn't familiar with the bombastic, trope-dense tone of the show. All I can say to those people is that if it looks like the main characters of this show are, for example, a blonde bruiser with a mullet and a metal plate in his chest, a hydrocephalic guy with one eye and a metal hand, and a military guy with a V tattooed on his face and libido-suppressant-related mammary growths... you're actually absorbing some of the basic facts of the show really clearly. Good job. Man, I can't wait for the new season. (via Venture Bros. Blog) Are you following The Mary Sue on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, & Google +?

  9. New Venture Bros. Halloween Special Stills Revealed

    And So It Begins

While Fall means many of our favorite live-action shows are returning to television, dedicated animation viewers sometimes have to be a little more patient. But fear not, fans of spy/assassin/superheroic/meta shenanigans! Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer, the mad scientists behind Cartoon Network hit The Venture Bros., revealed clips of the upcoming Halloween Special at Dragon Con. While the moving sneak peaks are yet to hit the (cyber)street, Publick was nice enough to put up some stills from the footage on his blog. For those who can't wait for more, rest assured that Season 5 is coming up fast, with pre-production wrapped, discussion for Season 6 already begun. All we know for now is that Patrick Warburton says S.P.H.I.N.X. [Ed. note: S.P.H.I.N.X.!] is back. In the meantime, whet your appetites for adventure by making wild speculations about what the heck is going on in these screenshots. Given the way the show plays out…you could be dead on. Go Team Venture!
