At first glance you may not see anything in this photo but a desk but if you look closer you might see history in the making. Or an April Fool’s prank. We’re not sure. What you’re looking at is a still from this The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug preview video Peter Jackson posted on April 1. FirstShowing.net pulled a screencap from 4:51 in which you may notice, is a script to Star Wars: Episode VIII. I think we can say one thing for sure, showing it was not a mistake. However, we don’t know if this was meant as a joke (he does have a great prop department at hand) or meant to drive nerds completely out of their minds. What do you think?
Following the home video release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Peter Jackson held a live video event where he spilled some details about The Desolation of Smaug. In this excerpt, Stephen Colbert just couldn’t stop himself from popping up to ensure that he’s getting the elves right. You know nothing, Peter Jackson.
There’s some actual information about Desolation of Smaug in here, too. And a bit of Tauriel. And some Billy Boyd! Hi there, Pippin.
Made by Scottish toy company H. Grossman Ltd, this “moving, breathing Megasaur” is approximately 20 feet long and has a moving head, eyes, arms, legs, and mouth. Did I say I wanted it as a kid? I mean I want it now. (via Gizmodo)
Sure, you’ve seen the One Ring sold before (you might even own one) but WETA has a slew of new Hobbit related props to sell thanks to Peter Jackson’s trilogy. Character statues, maps, weapons, and more are now available for purchase. Take a look at what they have to offer and see if you don’t find a precious all your own.
We’re still a few months away from being able to enjoy Peter Jackson’s first Hobbit film in theaters so I, for one, am thankful to have more pictures to tide us over. Most of these new ones come via a new app Warner Bros. has released called “Hobbit Movies“ (couldn’t come up with anything more creative, guys?), while some are just better looks at promotional shots we’ve already seen. From the app description, “View a selection of animated character portraits, travel through a detailed map of Middle-earth and explore the stunning narrative imagery of ‘The Scroll’ artwork to immerse yourself in the world of Hobbits, Dwarves, Elves, Orcs, deadly Wargs, giant Spiders and fearsome Dragons.” Basically, it just gives us some nice close-ups of dwarf hair, or lack thereof. Enjoy!
Noelle Stevenson‘s reimagined elf king Thranduil as Legolas’ speciesist party dad is here to tell you that the three Hobbit movies now have updated names, updated release dates, and updated swagger, now that his character design has been revealed in the form of Lee Pace in a shiny tunic.
We were already pretty certain that the first installment of the story The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey would be December 14th. Sure, Peter Jackson and Co. managed to get permission to stretch the story across three films since San Diego Comic Con. But that decision was unlikely to impact a movie that’s already in the can. And, as expected, Unexpected Journey isn’t getting any changes. It’s the next two movies that will be shaking things up.
So is the third going to be called The Hobbit: There and Back Again For One More? The Hobbit: An Unexpected Trilogy? The Hobbit: We Want More Gold Than Smaug? I digress, Peter Jackson is officially making three Hobbit films. Read on for details including potential (real) titles.
