  3. Comic-Con: While You Were Sleeping

    and let it be known

So none of us could make it to the San Diego Comic-Con this year, but that won't stop us from obsessively checking Twitter for the latest announcements, because, you know, that's an entirely healthy to deal with not being there in person, right? Right? Well, just in case you're not trying to live vicariously through Comic-Con attendees tweets for the next few days, here's a round-up of some of the best announcements from yesterday. 4. Someone Has Invented The Sonic Screwdriver From Doctor Who (What?!?)

    Okay You Primitive Screwheads

I'm getting weird feelings. Like foresight into a massive time paradox, the result of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space-time continuum and destroy the entire universe. The cause? Scientists taking ideas from science fiction in order to create real devices which will somehow go on to change how fiction writers from the past came up with ideas for no-yet-invented sci-fi devices. (Mark my words, that will be a movie one day). Scientists at the University of Dundee in the UK have created a device that uses ultrasound waves to turn object. In other words, screw them. In even more words, OH MY GOD THEY'VE MADE A SONIC SCREWDRIVER.

  5. Sonic Screwdriver Scarves And Other Doctor Who Knits

The World Doesn't End Because the Doctor Dances

I'm a big fan of alliteration so these Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver Scarves get bonus points in my book. (They already had a ton for being DW creations.) Etsy user MyAlterKnits created both the 9/10th and 11th Doctor versions but also has a few other related items in her shop. Take a look.

  6. Own a Super Limited Edition 11th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver Replica

As part of the QMx Artisan Master Series, Doctor Who prop maker extraordinaire Nick Robatto has made an offered up a replica of the 11th Doctor's sonic screwdriver -- you know, the green one. Robatto has been the prop maker for the show since the reboot in 2005, back when the Doctor was a cool guy wearing a leather jacket saving blonde girls from mannequins. Each sonic screwdriver takes around two weeks to make, and contains 148 aluminum, brass, copper, leather, and resin components. And yes, it extends and lights up just like the one in the show, but how much, you ask?

  7. Another Things Sonic Screwdrivers Can Do: Ruin Action Movies [Video]

It Goes Ding When There's Stuff

Would Will Smith have benefitted from the abilities of a sonic screwdriver in Bad Boys 2? Totally! Would it have made for the most unsuspenseful action franchise that ever existed! Yes, probably. In fact, the sonic screwdriver pretty much blows Earthly technology and weaponry out of the water. And that is why Doctor Who has aliens in it. (Also worth noting: This was produced by Lumberjack Films, the guys behind White Luke Cage!) (via Topless Robot)

  9. Scientists Create Sonic Tweezers; Sonic Screwdriver Still Further Down the Line

British Scientists (who else) have developed a device that allows them to move small objects with the force of sound. Or, to put it another, more disappointing way:

a device that allows us to use ultrasonic forces to move small objects like biological cells
    They call them Sonotweezers.
