  1. Solar Flare! Antares Rocket Launch Delayed until Thursday, and We Might See Some Aurorae

Really, sun? That move is such a cheap shot.

The sun ejected a pretty powerful solar flare on Tuesday, and it's going around delaying rocket launches, causing geomagnetic storms, and annoying Dragon Ball villains with temporary blindness—you know, things solar flares do. It's delayed the Antares rocket launch to Tursday, but it might give us some aurorae tonight.

  2. Watch Four Hours of This Month’s Solar Storm in Three Beautiful Minutes

Earlier this month there was a large M1-class solar flare near an Earth-sized sunspot known as AR1692, and the resulting Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) washed over the Earth two days later on March 17th. The event resulted in a massive Aurora Borealis display that photographer Göran Strand captured, and he compressed the four-hour event down to a beautiful three minutes.

  3. Massive Solar Storm to Reach Earth Tomorrow, Massive Solar Flare Captured in HD [Video]

A huge solar flare that has erupted from the Sun has unleashed a massive solar storm that is headed toward Earth, and predicted to reach us tomorrow morning around 7 AM EST. A storm as powerful as this one hasn't been seen in more than five years, and the effects of which are predicted to last 24 hours after the storm hits. It's possible that the storm will cause interference with satellites in orbit and power grids on Earth, but people in the know don't seem too worried. The above video of the solar flare, captured by the Solar Dynamics Observatory, is a gorgeous side effect of potentially dealing with interrupted power grids tomorrow. Good trade-off, right?
