  9. Review: Snowpiercer, The Graphic Novel

    All aboard!

If you've seen Bong Joon Ho's Snowpiercer, you might be wondering about Le Transperceneige, the French graphic novel on which it is based. Thankfully for those of us who don't speak French, this year Titan Comics put out the first-ever English translations, which includes Part 1: Escape and Part 2: Explorers. Part 1 just came out in paperback in June, and I got my grubby, sci-fi-loving hands on a copy.

  12. Review: Run, Don’t Walk, to See Snowpiercer, The Best Sci-Fi Film of the Decade So Far

CHRIS EVANS SLIPS ON A FISH.

Readers, I see a lot of movies. Most of them are good. Some are great. A small number I love. And every once in a while I see a movie that leaves me vibrating with energy as I leave the theater, knowing that what I just saw will stick with me probably for the rest of my life, or at least until the inevitable robot overlords come and conquer the planet. Snowpiercer is one of those. [Spoiler-free review]

  14. All Aboard The Latest Snowpiercer Trailer

    Submitted For Your Approval

True, there are explosions and sci-fi weirdness and the aquarium-walled train car I didn't know I wanted, but let's be real: the high point here is Tilda Swinton being a bad guy. Snowpiercer will hit stateside theaters on June 27. As we've reported previously, there was some dispute over whether the film was suitable for Western audiences (because we're dumb, or something). Good news: Snowpiercer will remain uncut. Bad news: it won't be receiving a wide release. If you're hoping to see it in theaters, cross your fingers that it'll be playing nearby.

    Meanwhile...

Yes, Snowpiercer still looks really strange, possibly awesome, and has Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, Ed Harris, and Octavia Spencer in it. Maybe it'll wind up as Space Mutiny on a train. Maybe it'll scour our eyeballs with its very awesomeness. I'm just saying, I'm ready. Previously in Snowpiercer

  16. We Asked, You Answered: The Mary Sue Readers Sound Off The Summer Movies of 2014

It seems like it was winter just yesterday, but already summer movie season is starting in the US with today's release of a little movie called Captain America: The Winter Soldier. A ton of movies are coming out over the next few months, some that we're looking forward to here at The Mary Sue (Guardians of the Galaxy), some that we're... not (Transformers: Age of Extinction). But we got curious: Which ones are you most looking forward to? So we asked. What follows is a roundup of the 2014 summer movie season, ranked from the flick you're are least anticipating to the one you're most chomping at the bit for. We've included our thoughts as well, plus a general sample of the responses we got to each film. (Are you in there? Step up and claim your wit!) Does the breakdown surprise you, or is it just about what you thought it would be?  Do you differ from the majority? Sound off in the comments.

  20. Snowpiercer Apparently Is Too Smart For Western Audiences, Says Weinstein

If we got angry about this kind of thing we'd be angry all the time

Want to know why Bong Joon-Ho's awesome new film Snowpiercer is getting a delayed premiere in America? Apparently, because Harvey Weinstein thinks the film is too smart for the Midwestern audience, so he's cutting 20 minutes of character development and non-action stuff. Go under the cut for direct quotes and outrage.
