I know I’m not the only one who sees R.I.P.D. and reads B.P.R.D. Both are comic books from Dark Horse and both are based around the supernatural. But only one is going to be a movie out this summer. Based on the comic from Peter Lenkov and Lucas Marangon, R.I.P.D. stars Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, and Mary-Louise Parker. If this is the first you’re hearing about the Highlander remake, I apologize. Last year, Fast Five director Justin Lin was attached to the project. He took over the post of executive producer when 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo was brought on board. And oh yeah, Ryan Reynolds is starring as Connor MacLeod. But today we’re here to talk about Fresnadillo’s decision to exit the project altogether.

Okay, everyone, it’s official: Ryan Reynolds will be taking the lead role of Connor MacLeod in the upcoming reboot of Highlander. The rumor first started circulated last month that the somewhat polarizing Green Lantern star might be up for the role, and it caused some to become, um, passionate. Lots of people have lots of opinions on it, and I am going to write about it. Don’t worry, people, I have watched the movie.

This story is going to piss you off, so I included a picture of Ryan Reynolds with an adorable dog to soften the blow. So, what’s the story? The story is this: Producers of the Highlander remake are looking at Reynolds for the lead. Because his action roles of late have been going so well for him? ::coughcough::Green Lantern::coughcough:: Is this a matter of redemption, people knowing that Ryan Reynolds can do better than we’ve seen? Wait a second, I haven’t seen Highlander (I know! it’s terrible! I’m sorry), so is Reynolds secretly perfect for this? I have no idea how to feel about this. But I have a feeling that people who do have an idea will probably be a little bit outraged. Should I remind you that the reboot is also by dudes from the Fast and Furious franchise? This feels bad, you guys. Bad. Maybe they’ll bring Hologram Freddie Mercury back for songs. And I managed to make it sound even worse.

Sometimes cosplay makes me weep. In a good way. This is one of those times. Sometimes cosplay also turns me on a little. This is also one of those times. Genderswapped Joker and Harley Quinn via Haus of Meta. Roxanna Meta (whose tumblr I found this on) was part of that fantastic Rule 63 Justice League group this past year. We here at The Mary Sue really want to see them do a Rule 63 Injustice League now with such notables as Ms. Freeze, Lexy Luthor and Doomsdawn (complete with rock boobs of course). Also, please invite me to be a part of it.

Okay, I want to see a Deadpool movie just as much as the next person, probably more, considering the fact that a randomly chosen person from the world’s population is highly unlikely to even know who Deadpool is. Now take the people who know who he is, and there are likely a significant chunk of them only know the version of the character from Wolverine: Origins, a mindless zombie crammed so full of different mutant powers we’re surprised that even he could keep them straight.

But, seriously, prospective makers of Deadpool, put your money where your mouth is.

Okay, R.I.P.D., now you have our attention: In the latest casting news for the film adaptation of the Dark Horse title Rest In Peace Department, it was announced that Victoria’s Secret and Sports Illustrated model Marisa Miller will be playing the part of … Jeff Bridges. Or, at least, she will be playing the corporeal version of the dead police officer named Bo whose spirit is being played by Jeff Bridges. Because, as you may have guessed, the Rest In Peace Department is made up of dead cops who answer to God.
