The Latest Dark Tower News May Be The Last Dark Tower News

The ongoing saga to bring Stephen King’s The Dark Tower to the big (or small) screen seems to be taking as long as the series itself took to play out but it’s just hit a brick wall. Warner Bros. has completely passed on the project. So is that it for gunslinger Roland Deschain? Hit the jump to find out.

Russell Crowe May Join Film Adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower

We’ve hard quite the on-again off -again relationship with Ron Howard and Akiva Goldsman’s film and television adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series. First, Javier Bardem signed on to play gunslinger Roland Deschain, then the project was canceled due to budget issues, then it was back on and coming to HBO. Soon after, it was postponed indefinitely. For a while, it didn’t seem like we’d be getting to see King’s magnum opus hit the big screen. Two Teaser Trailers For Man of Steel Have Landed, With Multiple Capes

The first features Kevin Costner’s Jonathan Kent doing a voiceover while the one after the jump has Superman’s biological father Jor-El, played by Russell Crowe, doing the honors (plus a few different clips).

Officially Official

Russell Crowe Will Play Jor-El, Superman’s Father

This was rumory at first, but now it’s apparently confirmed as “being in negotiations,” and we are meant to take that as official: Russell Crowe will be playing Jor-El, birth father of Superman, in Zach Snyder‘s upcoming reboot. There were several A-listers vying for the part that was once played by Marlon Brando, and after typing that, the casting of Crowe seems like a no-brainer. (Huge movie star, hot in the beginning of his career, slightly pudgier as the years went on … if we’re being honest.) Word is that Christopher Nolan, who is producing, was looking for a serious star for this role, making us wonder how big of a role Jor-El will have in this flick. And just in time for Father’s Day!
