The Dark Tower Movies Still Happening, Plus Actor Rumors!

It would not be exaggeration to say that the films (and possibly TV shows) based on Stephen King‘s The Dark Tower series have been on an extreme, ridiculous, and frankly exhausting rollercoaster ride for years now.  Fans of the sprawling epic have waited with baited breath as rumor after rumor hit the internet.  The story, after all, was told in seven mostly very lengthy novels over the course of King’s entire career and also involved a great deal of his other books.  To full encapsulate the story on film or on TV will be an extremely intense project that could honestly take decades.  Especially if things continue to move the way they have for the past few years.

Things We Saw Today: Russell Crowe Has Been To Krypton. No, Really.

If you’d have told me ten years ago that Russell Crowe would be one of the most delightfully nutty Twitter-ers out there I’d have thought you were insane. And that’s even after you explained to 2003 me what Twitter is. (Tumblr)

Oh Hollywood

Here’s Who Won At Last Night’s Oscars. Besides William Shatner, That Is.

Django Unchained, two for you. Life of Pi? Four for you, Life of Pi. You go, Life of Pi. Jennifer Lawrence? Do we have a Jennifer Lawrence here? Here you go, one for you… and none for The Hobbit‘s dwarf beards, byeeee!

Nope. Still Not Happening.

The Latest Dark Tower News May Be The Last Dark Tower News

The ongoing saga to bring Stephen King’s The Dark Tower to the big (or small) screen seems to be taking as long as the series itself took to play out but it’s just hit a brick wall. Warner Bros. has completely passed on the project. So is that it for gunslinger Roland Deschain? Hit the jump to find out.

Almost Totally Excellent

Russell Crowe May Join Film Adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower

We’ve hard quite the on-again off -again relationship with Ron Howard and Akiva Goldsman’s film and television adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series. First, Javier Bardem signed on to play gunslinger Roland Deschain, then the project was canceled due to budget issues, then it was back on and coming to HBO. Soon after, it was postponed indefinitely. For a while, it didn’t seem like we’d be getting to see King’s magnum opus hit the big screen. But now, thanks to some interest on the part of Warner Bros, we might finally see Goldsman’s project hit the ground running, and with a new gunslinger to boot.

Two Teaser Trailers For Man of Steel Have Landed, With Multiple Capes

Two different trailers for Zack Snyder’s Superman film, Man of Steel, are playing before The Dark Knight Rises and I saw neither (the IMAX showing didn’t have any trailers). But thankfully, as these things do, they’ve arrived online. And yes, these are teaser trailers that actually live up to the name. The first features Kevin Costner’s Jonathan Kent doing a voiceover while the one after the jump has Superman’s biological father Jor-El, played by Russell Crowe, doing the honors (plus a few different clips).

Officially Official

Russell Crowe Will Play Jor-El, Superman’s Father

This was rumory at first, but now it’s apparently confirmed as “being in negotiations,” and we are meant to take that as official: Russell Crowe will be playing Jor-El, birth father of Superman, in Zach Snyder‘s upcoming reboot. There were several A-listers vying for the part that was once played by Marlon Brando, and after typing that, the casting of Crowe seems like a no-brainer. (Huge movie star, hot in the beginning of his career, slightly pudgier as the years went on … if we’re being honest.) Word is that Christopher Nolan, who is producing, was looking for a serious star for this role, making us wonder how big of a role Jor-El will have in this flick. And just in time for Father’s Day!
