University of Chicago’s Indiana Jones Diary Mystery Solved In A Completely Satisfying Way

Late last week, we brought you a mystery straight out of Indiana Jones lore. An extremely detailed replica diary from Raiders of the Lost Ark was delivered to the University of Chicago addressed to Henry Walton Jones Jr., aka Indiana Jones. The school, and internet at large, speculated as to its origins but we’ve got the official answer. And it’s much more interesting than we expected.

Raiders of the Lost Ark, All In One Gif

Brought to our eyeballs by the same person who gave us each of the original Star Wars movies in one gif, here’s Raiders of the Lost Ark, again, all as one animated gif. Also on PixelMash Theater‘s Website: The other two Indiana Jones films (Kingdom of the Crystal what now? Sorry. Never heard of it.), Purgatory 1, 2, and 3, Aliens, and Back to the Future. Apparently they’ve all been around for a while, but the Star Wars gifs are the only ones I’d seen before.

I know what I’m doing this weekend! …Actually, probably watching a real movie. But still! These are pretty impressive. Check out Raiders after the jump.

BAD IDEAS FROM SMART PEOPLE

Indiana Jones 5 Is Still Happening According To Karen Allen (Sigh)

When last we heard about Indiana Jones 5, producer Frank Marshall said George Lucas wasn’t writing it and that it wasn’t likely to happen at all. Marion Ravenwood begs to differ. I mean, actress Karen Allen does. And if you think she’s talking out of her ear, think again. She checked with Steven Spielberg first.

Ïve Bastrash’s Beautiful Alternate Movie Posters

Canadian artist Ïve Bastrash’s alternate movie posters are kind of creepy. In that I’m not sure how he got a look at my DVD collection, because that’s, like, in my apartment. I’m just saying, if he’d wanted to borrow a movie or two, he could have just asked.

10 Movies That Should Be In Theaters All The Time

Every once in a while, popular films are re-released into theaters. Sometimes it’s with improved sound, effects etc. but sometimes it’s just because people love them so much. This past year we saw Disney’s The Lion King back in theaters in 3D and the original Back to the Future. Next year will find Star Wars back in theaters (again) with their 3D version. When movies like these are brought back to the big screen, they almost always prove extremely popular, not to mention profitable. So that begs the question – why do they ever leave?

The movie theater business isn’t an easy one. Most of their money is made through popcorn, candy and soda sales with a percentage of ticket sales going to the studios depending on how long the film is out. Special screenings, depending on who’s running them, have a different cost strategy, but pretty much, if people will keep coming to see it (and buying concessions) it stands to reason they’ll make money. Here are ten films that I think deserve to perpetually show on the big screen. Granted I don’t know everything about what a financial model for something like this would be and I’m not saying they have to show every day but theaters are guaranteed to have at least one butt in their seats for these.
