Pete & Pete Creator Expresses Surprise That So Many Girls Like The Show; We Laugh

Nickelodeon’s could-only-have-been-made-in-the-nineties cult hit Pete & Pete is almost twenty years old (if you start counting when the television show aired, not when the first 60 second shorts did), and last year the creators of the show staged their first small cast reunion, expecting nobody to show up. The gathering sold out. Two subsequent shows at a larger location each sold out in five minutes or less. This week, they took the reunion tour to Los Angeles, and naturally that warranted an interview from the LA Times, in which Will McRobb and Chris Viscardi admitted that their most enthusiastic fans, the ones that seem most touched by the show, are women.

Vital Information for Your Everyday Life

All That Alumn Lori Beth Denberg Is On Workaholics (For About Five Seconds); We Get Really Excited

I’m gonna level with you: I have no idea what Workaholics is about. But now I love it and the people who make it, for proving that we’ve reached a time in which incredibly obscure references to the childhoods of people my age who had cable can be universally applied humor. In case you haven’t noticed, we’ve got a category called Vital Information for Your Everyday Life on The Mary Sue, which I borrowed from when I started that category back in my Geekosystem days.  Obviously we need to use it more often.

Cartoon Network Will Bring Back Old Favorites, ThunderCats Not Deemed a New Favorite

Perhaps taking a cue from Nickelodeon and its recent trip down memory lane, Cartoon Network has announced that it will bring some of its old favorites back into its primetime lineup in a block called Cartoon Planet. It also announced its list of returning shows, and one super-hyped reboot didn’t make the cut. ThunderCats was nowhere to be seen. Could it be coming back at another time of the year, taking a Community-style hiatus? Other evidence points to “Snarf.”

NickMom Unveils Their Programming, Still Nothing Aimed At Dads

We brought you the news late last year that Nickelodeon’s Nick Jr. station would be launching a nightly programming block called NickMom. The original press release touted “a mix of original long- and short-form humor-based programming, including talk shows, stand-up and sketch comedy, hidden camera and more” but they’ve finally announced what the shows will actually be. Take a look.

There Was a Pete & Pete Cast Reunion This Weekend, Watch the Whole Thing Here

The Adventures of Pete & Pete ran for twenty-six short films, five half-hour specials, and three seasons of actual greenlit television, the poster kid/show/kid’s show for that early 90′s Nickelodeon sense of “How did anyone know that this was a good idea?” (A feeling just on the other side of “Why did anyone think this was a good idea?”) Our favorite quote from this Saturday’s cast reunion in Los Angeles?

We were writing for a certain kind of kid, and I guess it was all you folks here today. We were writing for a certain kid that was maybe, um, felt like he was a little weird himself and wasn’t really sure how to express that or if it was okay to express that. And we wanted to find that kid and show him our show and say “it’s okay.”

Moms Who Grew Up With Nickelodeon, Say Hello To NICKMOM!

As someone who spent the majority of her youth watching episodes of You Can’t Do That On Television, Double Dare and Clarissa Explains It All, I must say I occasionally find myself longing for shows that I know are aimed squarely at me and that I’m guaranteed to enjoy. I may not be a mother but some ladies who grew up with the cable network Nikelodeon now are and I hope they are as excited about this news as I am. Nick Jr., the station aimed at preschool-aged children, is launching a primetime block of programming for their moms called, what else? NICKMOM.
