Muppets Matriarch Jane Nebel Henson Has Passed Away

It’s a sad day for Muppet fans (that’s all of you, right? At least casually? Tell me it’s all of you): Jane Nebel Henson, former wife of the late Jim Henson, passed away following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Jane was much, much more than Jim’s wife, though. She was his creative partner, collaborating with him from the very beginning of his career. Writes Tough Pigs, “While Jim was quietly revolutionizing TV puppetry and advertising [with Sam and Friends and his famous Wilkins Coffee ads], Jane was right there beside him. She was history’s second-ever Muppeteer.”

Wait, What? Tom Hiddleston Might Have a Cameo in The Muppets… Again!?

OK, so don’t freak out yet, because the report that Tom Hiddleston will have a cameo in The Muppets… Again! as someone called The Great Escapo isn’t confirmed yet and could easily be premature or a giant hoax designed to break Tumblr’s collective heart.

Things We Saw Today: You Can Own King Robert’s Warhammer From Game of Thrones

An officially licensed prop created by Valyrian Steel, this warhammer replica is 44″ long, weighs 10 pounds, and comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by George R.R. Martin. The word warhammer is not, as Nerd Approved points out, a euphemism, so take your Dr. Horrible jokes elsewhere. (Actually, no, feel free to leave that joke in the comments.)

Jim Henson & Frank Oz Had A Nice Chat In 1989. Kermit & Cookie Monster Were Also There. [VIDEO]

Just hearing the names Jim Henson and Frank Oz together in the same sentence makes me giddy so you can imagine my excitement upon finding this video. The appearance was made at the Puppeteers of America national festival at MIT in Boston in 1989 and an introduction tagged on by Oz a few years after Henson’s death. In their informal conversation they cover everything from Sesame Street to The Dark Crystal to Little Shop of Horrors. It’s a long video but certainly worth the watch if you’re a fan of either of these talented men.

Christoph Waltz Might be the (Non-Muppet) Star of the Next Muppets Movie

It’s time for a hearty Kermit flail: Christoph Waltz is apparently in negotiations to be one of the human stars of the next Muppets movie.

YAAAAAAAAAYY!!!!!

What we know about the film so far is that it’s a “crime caper” set in Europe; The Hollywood Reporter notes that Waltz is in talks to play an Interpol inspector and that other stand-out human roles will include “a Russian femme fatale and a male lead whose intentions are always in question.”

60 Minutes of Muppets. YAAAAAAAAY! [VIDEO]

The Muppets All-Star Comedy Gala, a live show featuring the Muppets and assorted non-Muppet stand-up comedians, was one of the big events at this year’s Just For Laughs festival in Montreal. It was filmed for Canadian TV and has now been released online in rough cut form.

It’s… kind of a new episode of The Muppet Show. Or at least as close as we’ve gotten in a while. And if that’s not enough to get you excited, then I just don’t know. Even if you don’t watch the whole hour-long video, at least watch the first six minutes, which includes a musical tribute to Canada written by Sam the Eagle.
