The Latest Agents of SHIELD Featurette Introduces Ming-Na’s Mysterious Agent Melinda May

Finally, we get to see the featurette for Ming-Na Wen‘s Agent Melinda May, showing a character with an air of mystery to rival that of Agent Coulson, plus some serious fighting chops. It certainly bodes well that while introducing her own character the actress can’t contain her excitement. We can’t wait either, Ming-Na. We can’t wait either. Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD premiers September 24th at 8:00 pm on ABC.

Ming Na Wen Talks Being Agents of SHIELD‘s Bruiser; Working With Joss Whedon

Melinda May is introduced to us in the Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. when a hardened, cynical Agent Ward says “Is that who I think it is?” and refuses to believe that she’s “just the pilot.” But while her reputation precedes her on the show, actress Ming Na Wen explains that the viewers might have to wait a little longer to hear her whole story.

S.H.I.E.L.D. Will Be More Joss Whedon-y, Less Comic Book-y, Says Star Ming-Na

Now that the cast of Joss Whedon‘s S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show is all assembled (did you think I’d stop using that joke? I won’t.), we’ve been waiting to hear more about what the show will be like. And now, courtesy of star Ming-Na, aka Agent Melinda May, we have our first clue.

Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Show Has Some Casting Announcements

We’ve been antsy to hear any news regarding Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. television show on ABC. Especially after we heard of Agent Coulson’s involvement. Today we found out two more actors have been cast. Who are they and who will they play? Read on to find out!

I'll Allow It

S.H.I.E.L.D. (Might) Start Shooting in January, Debut in Less Than a Year

Wow, that was fast. Marvel is wasting no time getting S.H.I.E.L.D. to the eyeballs of superhero fans worldwide. According to Digital Spy, filming for the show will begin this January, putting the show on track to debut as part of ABN’s fall 2013 season.

Sounds good to me. Ming Na can’t get to my TV fast enough.

Whedon Casts a Bonafide Disney Princess for S.H.I.E.L.D.

Though I guess some people know her from, like, this show called ER, or something? Or, Street Fighter, Stargate, or Eureka. But Ming-Na (who has also worked under her full name, Ming-Na Wen) is also the voice of Disney’s Mulan, even in such non-movie projects as Kingdom Hearts. Multiple Kingdom Hearts games.

The Macau-born, Hong Kong and American raised actor is our first confirmed new addition to Joss Whedon‘s S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot (not counting Clark Gregg, since his Agent Coulson is a known character), in the role of Melinda May, and just because that name isn’t familiar might not mean we don’t know anything about her.

And Now For Something Completely Different

Amanda And Becky Talk About Street Fighter: Part 2, Street Fighter Alpha

This month, the Street Fighter series turns twenty-five making a lot of us feel extremely old. To celebrate this mile-stone, Becky Chambers, our resident video game expert, and Amanda LaPergola, our resident Street Fightologist (a title Amanda has given to herself), have sat down for a series of chats about the nature, function, and cultural impact of the series.

Last week, Becky and Amanda discussed the original Street Fighter, Street Fighter II, the questionable backstory of Cammy White, the decline of arcade culture and the merits of the 1994 live action movie (of which there are some). This week, Becky and Amanda discuss Street Fighter Alphas 1, 2, and 3: the prequels to the events of Street Fighter II.  Let’s join them now in an undisclosed chatroom as they talk about combos, bromance, and the practicality of blue nipple hearts…
