  8. Mindy Kaling, Kit Harrington, Emma Stone, & More Read Really Mean Tweets About Themselves [VIDEO]

    And That's Terrible

Doing what we do, we get the occasional bad egg directing some undignified hate our way on social media. And of course, doing what we do, we're constantly on social media so we actually see it. Celebrities are normally too busy for that sort of thing, if they even have a Twitter account at all. Jimmy Kimmel Live has been doing a running series where they get actors to read real tweets about them out loud. But not just any tweets. These are the mean kind. Watch and see if folks like Don Cheadle, Mindy Kaling, Matthew McConaughey, Kit Harrington, Emma Stone, and Gary Oldman can keep their composure. The previous installment is just under here...

  11. Mindy Kaling Shares the Very Human Emotions She Felt When Her Pilot Was Picked Up For Series

    million dollar lady

First, we have great news concerning Mindy Kaling's pilot that she filmed for Fox -- it was picked up for series, and that series also has a title: The Mindy Project! (Exclamation point ours.) The announcement came during this week's TV upfronts, and the newly-minted sitcom showrunner kept a diary at Vulture for the duration. Her journey began in Boston at her childhood home and ends in New York, but not before a layover in the Land of Tears of Joy.

  12. Mindy Kaling Is Shooting a Pilot for Fox, Will Leave The Office If It’s Picked Up

    Clever Girl

NBC may be losing one of its brightest comedy stars -- and it looks like it's their own darn fault, too! Mindy Kaling, author and star of The Office, has been shopping around a script for a sitcom pilot about a "Bridget Jones-type doctor." And NBC wasn't interested. (Really? Um, okay then!) However, Fox thought it would be a good idea to hop on the Kaling train -- probably sensing the success of other comedies featuring quirky female characters, like The New Girl with Zooey Deschanel -- and picked up the pilot. Should it go to series, NBC will have to wave goodbye to Kelly Kapoor. Their loss!

  16. Seven Underrated (Female) TV Comedy Writers to Watch

The question of women in comedy can at times (read: most of the time) be vaguely ridiculous, and frequently conflated. Are we talking about the actresses, who may have trouble finding well-rounded or non-cliched characters to take on? Are we talking about the writers, who often face writers' rooms that are not exactly equally distributed, nor always welcoming? Both are going up against a world which sporadically bursts into debates over whether women are as funny as their male counterparts, which can seem especially ludicrous in times like these, when television is experiencing a veritable renaissance of funny women showcasing their talents, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey exist as a whole different type of triple threat (writer/actor/producers), and next season’s new series are looking to be largely dominated by female characters and creators. But the question itself played itself out a few dozen posts ago. Bored now. So instead of further "debate," we decided to showcase a few of the talents of women from the writing staffs of some of our favorite TV comedies.

  17. The Office Writer Mindy Kaling Tweeting Michael Scott Stories We’ll Never See

As everyone knows, the current season of NBC's The Office will be Steve Carrell's last, and he is supposedly leaving one month before the season finale. This is significant, of course, because he's the "main" character of the show, and whether or not you love him or can't stand even a nanosecond of his screen time, the show most likely won't be the same without him, leading most fans to wonder whether or not the show can even survive. Regardless of the uncertain future, show writer Mindy Kaling, who also plays character Kelly Kapoor, tweeted some fun Michael Scott ideas that were passed on, or could've been in his future had he stayed on the show. Head on past the break to see some of the fun ideas, and to feel sad about the character's departure.

  18. Kelly Kapoor Says Dwight Schrute Could Be the Next Michael Scott

As Steve Carrell continues to insist that he's leaving The Office to the point where we all actually are starting to believe it, a front-runner has emerged to take his place: None other than Rainn Wilson, whom you may know better as Dwight Schrute. Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello got this tasty tidbit from one of the show's stars/producers:

“I’d love to see Rain Wilson in that position,” says co-executive producer/co-star Mindy Kaling, who snagged a much-deserved Emmy nominee for co-writing last season’s four-star Jim/Pam wedding episode. “Dwight has become so nuanced — you actually care about him now. I think if [we did a good job laying the groundwork] this coming season he would be a fantastic boss. “But that’s my dream,” she adds. “It certainly hasn’t been approved by people that are more powerful than me and who make those kind of decisions.”
Kaling, who plays Kelly Kapoor on The Office, acknowledged that she'd really prefer not to have Carrell leave at all, but if that's the way of things, this is the best of all possible alternatives.
