Alright, I’m just as well versed as the next person in the tropes of time travel fiction. I know the perils of running into your past self in a setting where changing the timeline can have disastrous consequences, compared to settings where changes in the past simply split off parallel universes or where changing the past is impossible because if you change it then you’ll never have needed to come back to change it and then you won’t have changed it so you’ll have to come back to change it but then you’ll never have come back to change it so then it won’t have changed so you’ll go back to change it but then it won’t have changed so…

Over the summer we heard Prometheus star Michael Fassbender had landed the lead role in Ubisoft’s film adaptation of their video game, Assassin’s Creed. Not only that, he was co-directing it as well. Then…nothing. Thankfully we can all breathe a big sigh of relief. The project is a go thanks to new financing.

Oh, the business of anticipating movies. It can be painful sometimes, like when the team takes a painstakingly long time to get their stuff together and actually agree to it. Luckily for us, when it comes to the X-Men: First Class sequel–that is, a sequel to a prequel–it actually seems to be moving at a reasonable pace. Set to open in the summer of 2014, the title of the upcoming film has now been revealed.

Michael Fassbender’s role repertoire is pretty impressive — from morally ambiguous android to executive sex-addict, he’s played it all. Well, except for a time-traveling assassin, but not to worry, his role in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed film adaptation will fill in his resume quite nicely.

Just an idea to run by all of you, as we find ourselves in the midst of a very busy and exciting summer of gigantic movies, including Prometheus and the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises. Throw in a little Marvel magic, a little more Christopher Nolan, put the spotlight on Michael Fassbender, and choose a different franchise — Bond. James Bond. Now, imagine a 007 origin story starring Fassbender, directed by Nolan. Does the trailer above come anywhere close? I’ll let you make that call. Keep in mind: Daniel Craig might be vacating the Bond role…

Joel McHale, besides sitting around getting nominated for awards, has a regular gig at E!, which is kind of a terrible channel, but McHale is well aware of this. He makes fun of it and its programming (and colossally good sport Ryan Seacrest) on a weekly basis in between shooting Community. But even better for us, he makes spoofy videos, like this take on the “Happy Birthday, David” video for Prometheus. McHale’s is above, the Michael Fassbender version is after the jump.
