  1. Games, Comics, and Genre TV Earn GLAAD Award Nominations

The nominees for the 26th annual GLAAD Media Awards were announced today, which recognize works that have "fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives." Because genre media can often be forward-thinking and groundbreaking in representation, it should come as no surprise that the things we love here on TMS are well-represented among the nominees.

  2. Hawkeye Fans Help Raise Over $2K for Charity Working to End Violence Against Women and Children

    Way to go, bros!

Kelly Sue DeConnick and Matt Fraction have a history of giving partial proceeds from We Love Fine merchandise for their respective publications to charity, and all that Hawkeye love is really making a difference!

  3. Chicago Comic Shop Chain Calls Kelly Sue DeConnick “Mrs. Matt Fraction” In Bitch Planet Listing

    This looks bad.

Here's some non-compliant advice for comic proprietors everywhere: listing a female creator's work using their husband's name isn't a joke. It's sexist.

  4. Pull it Together: Hawkeye, Lazarus and the Finales of The Wake and Fatale

We've got issues. Lots of issues.

Welcome to Pull it Together, where the goal isn’t to tell you exactly what comics you should read, but to narrow the field by showing you titles you shouldn’t overlook. It isn’t about what’s on my pull list, it’s about what could be on yours! For special attention this week, I direct you towards Comixology's Guardians of the Galaxy sale, as the second collection of Greg Rucka's Lazarus and the finale of The Wake.

  5. Adam WarRock’s “The Quiet” Is the Best Song About Stopping Time With Orgasms That You Will Hear All Day

Also, it's a much better title than "Cum World."

Unless Chip Zdarsky and Matt Fraction write their own song about their Eisner Award-nominated comic book Sex Criminals in the next few hours, of course (which, hey don't put it past them). But in the meantime, our favorite nerd rapper Adam WarRock has the market covered with this surprisingly heartfelt track about sex and relationships.

  6. Stick It to Fred Phelp’s Memory by Buying a Hawkeye or Captain Marvel Shirt

This is the best reaction to this news that we've seen so far.

It's hard to know how to feel about the recent passing of Fred Phelps, in no small part because he did a lot of terrible things and was generally (and rightly) seen as an extremely bad person. But, Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick will make things a little easier for you by giving a bunch of their hard-earned comic book money to charity.

  8. Image’s Ody-C Gives Us Lots of Lovely Genderswapped Greek Myth

    old gods do new jobs

Ody-C is an upcoming series from Matt Fraction that retells the story of The Odyssey, in space, with many (if not all) of the genders reversed. Artist Christian Ward posted these character designs from the series on his Tumblr. Here we have our crafty Odysseus, mistress of tricks, with her laser gun and space sword and I hope I have caught your attention by now.

  9. Comics Publisher Image Announces New Titles At Image Expo

    My Spidey Sense Is Tingling

This Thursday marked the second annual Image Expo, held by comics publisher Image in their home city of San Francisco to promote their upcoming books. The event -- a comics-star-studded extravaganza of signings and announcements -- is the only one of its kind in comics publishing, as most publishers continue to use standard comic conventions or the press to announce their new projects. The good news is that there are a lot of awesome-sounding projects coming up. The bad news is that (unsurprisingly) diversity is still a problem in comics.

  10. The Fourth Printing Cover of Sex Criminals Is Even Better in Its Physical Form

From the writer of "Hawkeye" and the guy who talks to Applebee's on Facebook!

We've featured Sex Criminals, the Matt Fraction/Chip Zdarsky comic about people who can stop time with their orgasms, as one of the editor's picks for our Geekosystem podcast in the past. That's because it's totally amazing. The first issue is getting a fourth printing, and what they've done with the cover is nothing short of fantastic.
