Kill Bill

Good News Everyone!

Terrifying Parasite Wasp Named After Beatrix Kiddo and That’s Awesome From All Angles

If you’re unfamiliar with Kill Bill, it’s a two part Quentin Tarantino series featuring Uma Thurman as the Bride, neé Beatrix Kiddo, an assassin newly awakened from a coma who sets out to kill all the people who put her in it and took her unborn child, including the child’s father, Bill. In some of the most famous fight scenes in the series, she wears a yellow tracksuit with black stripes, while Flight of the Bumblebee plays in the background.

If you’re unfamiliar with parasite wasps, they’re the xenomorphs of the wasp world, in the genus Braconidae. Every insect in Braconidae has one thing in common: they lay their eggs in the sometimes still living bodies of their prey, so that when the babies hatch they’re already inside their first meal. New species Cystomastacoides kiddo has indeed been named after Beatrix, and yes, it is indeed bright yellow.

Take a Look at Some Awesome Stuntwomen From Throughout the Years

There are a lot of people in the entertainment industry who don’t get the recognition they deserve: CGI actors, crafts services, janitors, third assistant directors, the list goes on and on. On that list, alongside all the script supervisors but put in vastly more physical danger are the stuntpeople. They may not get to make the speeches at the Golden Globes, but we see the efforts of their work in every action and superhero movie and TV show we watch, and in plenty of other places as well.

Flavorwire put together a great (and thorough) slideshow of actor and their stunt doubles, but let’s take a look at some of the ladies behind our favorite ladies:

Momtagonists: 7 Moms Who Get to Be The Hero

It’s Mother’s Day this weekend, and while we’ve covered horrible moms and great moms, we thought we’d spend this week talking about moms who get to be the heroes. This list focuses on mothers who are also leading protagonists, not just supporting characters to others with bigger roles. Geekdom is full of secondary parental figures, usually there to advise, get killed for dramatic effect, or to rebel against. These moms, however, are front and center and waving their mom flags high, and even if they might not be the only protagonist in their story, their character development is just as much a part of the whole as the other characters.
