Drool Over The Final Harry Potter Anniversary Cover by Kazu Kibuishi, Plus Box Set Designs

I love Mary GrandPré‘s original covers for the Scholastic versions of the Harry Potter books, but I also love dragons, so I’m a big fan of the final cover in Scholastic’s Kazu Kibuishi illustrated Harry Potter 15th anniversary set. Of course, the cover is also gorgeously illustrated with amazing composition and lighting, so that might be a bigger draw than the dragon for some of you. The Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows cover was revealed on July 31 in the New York City Scholastic Store, and will be available in paperback  individually and as part of a box set with Kibuishi’s other illustrated covers. Check out the tempting box set design, with even more of Kibuishi’s artwork, after the jump. If I keep telling myself that my hardcovers are falling apart, I can magically justify new copies, right?

Get Your Harry Potter On With Previously Unreleased Mary GrandPré Art And a New Half-Blood Prince Cover

Parker Jordan Fine Art and ArtInsights have compiled 16 previously unreleased pieces by Harry Potter illustration guru Mary GrandPré. They are so, so very nostalgia-inducing, not to mention just plain cool. Also cool: Artist Kazu Kibuishi‘s cover for the anniversary edition of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, seen above. And to bring the Harry Potter art full circle: Kibuishi says he chose his color scheme in part to “[pay] tribute to Mary GrandPré’s work.”

Heck yeah you did. Mary GrandPré: Illustrator of our childhoods.

Here’s the Fifteenth Anniversary Cover of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

It’s been fifteen years since Harry Potter started? I’ve seen the Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets covers, so I knew this was happening, but… it just hit me. Fif. Teen. Years. Noooo, I feel old…

Here’s Our First Look at the New U.S. Cover for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Scholastic announced that they’d be redoing the covers of their paperback editions of Harry Potter in February, and they’ve been slowly rolling out the new illustrations from comics artist Kazu Kibuishi. This week, they revealed the cover for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, prominently featuring the Burrow! You can check out Kibuishi’s cover for Sorcerer’s Stone here, and if you still love the Mary GrandPré covers, fear not. They’ll still be gracing the hardcover editions.

State of the Union Address Left out the Bit Where We’re Getting New Harry Potter Cover Art

Now, don’t get your howler stationary out just yet. Kazu Kibuishi‘s lovely illustrations aren’t going to be replacing Mary GrandPré‘s iconic dust jackets on the US hardcover editions of the Harry Potter books. They’re going on the 15th anniversary paperbacks, which will begin their release with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone this fall. Which I note is still going to be called “Sorcerer” and not “Philosopher” because sigh.

Said Kibuishi of the opportunity to illustrate Harry Potter:
