Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Katee Sackhoff Is Basically The Only Woman In Riddick And That Concerns Her Deeply

“I think the nerve-wracking part of it comes from being really one of the only women in the movie. There’s some other women in the movie, but they’re in the very, very, very beginning. There’s nobody to take focus off of me, if I’m not good. That was my biggest fear. There’s so many guys in the movie. They were all amazing. Every single one of those guys are phenomenal actors, and they really brought such life to their characters. But, when you’re the only woman in most of the movie, there’s a lot of pressure. If you’re not good, everyone is like, ‘Well, the girl sucked!’ It’s not like people can go, ‘Which one?’ The flipside of that is, if it succeeds, it’s the other side of that. This is, by far, the biggest movie I’ve ever done. I’m incredibly excited, but I’m also really scared. So, we’ll see.” Battlestar Galactica actress Katee Sackoff speaking to Collider about her role in the upcoming Riddick film.

“I made a conscious effort to make her stronger than anyone I’ve ever played with very little, if no, vulnerability,” she said of her character Dahl. “She’s just really, really strong.  If she has a vulnerability, you’re never going to see it.”

Sackhoff is also still attached to that lady Expendables-type film which she told them is still happening but slow moving at this point in the game.

Someone did an awesome job photoshopping Community’s Alison Brie as Captain America. What they failed to realize was she would have looked equally cool with her sensitive stomach region protected. (via ScreenRant)

Is “Historical Accuracy” a Good Defense of Patriarchal Societies in Fantasy Fiction?

Are you aware that human history is full of examples of sexist, patriarchal societies where women were discriminated against? I’m sure you are, as a reader of The Mary Sue. I’m pretty sure you are as a person alive in the 21st Century, too. Yet so many of the historically inspired fantasy worlds we love are remarkably intent on reminding us of this.

When I raise this issue with someone, I often get some variation of this in reply. Sexism in (to pick the most obvious example) medieval fantasy is okay or even desirable, the thinking goes, because in the real European Middle Ages sexism was the status quo. There’s no denying that, but fantasy is called fantasy because it’s a fantasy. There were no dragons in the real Middle Ages either, but we don’t have a problem including them.

Oculus Set Photo Shows A Redhead Katee Sackhoff, Another Young Amelia Pond, & Regular Karen Gillan

Ok, that’s not a young Amelia Pond replacement, it’s actress Annalise Basso who was cast to play Doctor Who star Karen Gillan’s younger self in her new film Oculus. And yes, that’s Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff with her new red locks to play their mom. She tweeted this photo from set the other day but check out another after the jump with her and what she’s guessing is the reason she got the role…

Not a Misprint

There’s a Second Female Expendables Movie in the Works. Called The ExpendaBelles. No, Really.

After finding themselves beaten to the punch by the Expendables-inspired action flick starring Gina Carano and Katee Sackhoff, Millennium Films, the studio behind the original Expendables, has announced their own official spinoff about a team of female mercenaries… called The ExpendaBelles.

Seriously. I could not make that up if I tried.

BSG’s Katee Sackhoff To Play Karen Gillan’s Mom In Her First Post-Doctor Who Movie Gig

When fandoms collide, it’s (usually) a beautiful thing. I think it’s safe to say that applies to this news. Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff has been cast in Karen Gillan’s first movie gig after her run on Doctor Who. And get this, Sackhoff is playing Gillan’s mom. As if that wasn’t enough to get you to keep reading, how about the possibility of Gillan playing a role in Inspector Spacetime?

This is Probably the Closest We’ll Get to Seeing Katee Sackhoff Cosplay Boba Fett

Because on tonight’s episode of Clone Wars, Katee Sackhoff (who has a silent ‘H’ in her name) debuts in the character of a Mandalorian cult warrior, set against the Jedi fighter Ahsoka Tano (who also has a silent ‘H’ in her name), voiced by geek girl luminary Ashley Eckstein.

I don’t watch much Clone Wars, but hearing Starbuck’s voice coming out of that Mandalorian bucket helm is still pretty dang cool.

Batman: Year One Adds More Cast, Has First Pictures

Batman: Year One was literally the first superhero book I ever bought, not the first Batman book, the first superhero book, period. So please excuse me while I gush.

Ohmigosh that’s got to be from the part where he’s stuck in an abandoned building and they firebomb it and send in three swat teams and he gets shot twice AND HE STILL KICKS ALL OF THEIR ASSES.

But aside from nice art of some of the book’s most iconic sequences, there’s also a great cast lineup.
