It’s October 28th already, and you don’t have a Halloween costume. But worry not, because we’ve got your back.

It may surprise readers to learn this, but when I go to the movies, I still hold out hope that I will get what is advertised, whether it be an entertaining escape, a learning experience, a meaningful message, or enough explosives (or Kyrptonians) to take down a major city. But Hollywood continues to trip my internal alarms with its third installment of the Riddick series (if we are not including his forays into animated shorts or video games), starring the gravel-voiced Vin Diesel. What could have – and should have – been a good time with monsters, mercenaries, and R-rated gore is instead a motherload of sexist tropes and a weary third act. Tired yet? We’ve only just begun.READ MORE

Remember how Marvel Studios’ Louis D’Esposito mentioned they might have Captain Marvel on the brain? You should. We posted about it, like, three hours ago. Nobody freak out, because this might not necessarily be related, but Katee Sackhoff mentioned on the Schmoes Know podcast that “there’s been some stuff going on” between her and Disney, including “a lot of checking of availability for the first quarter of next year.”
I said don’t freak out!
Oh, who’m I kidding? This is totally worth freaking out over. And even if Disney, which owns Marvel, isn’t testing the waters with Sackhoff to play Captain Marvel (please please please let them be doing that, pleasepleasplease), we’ll always have that GEEK Magazine photoshoot she did where she posed with a Dalek and dressed up as Tyler Durden, Captain Kirk, an Orion slave girl, and Tom Baker‘s Doctor.
Because, as you can see from the pic to the left, that happened. Check out the video under the jump.READ MORE

“I love Harley Quinn. I do. I just love it…It’s not been done before. It’s this fantastic mix. I mean, it’s like the female Joker. Who wouldn’t want to do that? Quite potentially — it’s not around so I wouldn’t feel the weight of it — I’d probably sell my first born at this point to do that.” – Battlestar Galactica and Riddick actress Katee Sackhoff speaking to Esquire.READ MORE

You’d think that, after years and years of SDCCs, there would have been at least one woman-moderated panel in the hallowed hall H, right? Wrong. This year was the first.
From the Indiewire article:
Women have moderated panels at the smaller cons before and in the other rooms at Comic-Con, but never at the main show itself. The closest it’s gotten to this before was Jenna Busch moderated a TV panel in Hall H on Sunday. But, usually those panels aren’t the 6,500 behemoths that movie panels are. They actually have removed seats from the hall for reasons I still don’t quite understand. This year, it finally happened with LA Times’ Hero Complex editor Gina McIntyre, who moderated the panel for Terry Gilliam’s The Zero Theorem.
Women dominated San Diego Comic-Con this year in more ways than one. We’ve already reported about how women are leading the conversations when it comes to SDCC social media discussion, and now Indiewire has a great article on how the female presence was felt at the biggest con in the country. Worth noting in particular was the “Women Who Kick Ass” panel, which featured the above lovely badasses (from left to right): Tatiana Maslany, Katee Sackhoff, Maggie Q, Danai Gurira, and Michelle Rodriguez.

Katee Sackhoff (of Battlestar Galactica fame) has been filming the new Riddick movie for what feels like forever. Finally we are getting close to its release, and in getting close to its release we are getting more information about the film, the characters, and (most excitingly, in my book at least) about Sackhoff’s role.
She talked with Collider about her audition experience, her character, her childhood sci-fi heroine, and being one of the most badass women in sci-fi. Some choice quotes under the cut.READ MORE
