Jumanji Remake Hires a Writer… and That’s Actually Very Good News

We’ve known for a while now that Jumanji is getting a remake. But like many proposed remakes/adaptations of nostalgia-heavy shows, movies, and games, I just assumed it was going to peter out eventually, languishing in development hell for a few years before passing out of the public consciousness entirely. But it looks like that might not be the case, as the Jumanji remake now has a writer: Stranger than Fiction scribe Zach Helm.

Did… did I just start looking forward to the Jumanji remake? I think I did.

Sony Pictures Planning Jumanji Reboot

Before we dreamt of joining the intricate, hyper-realistic worlds depicted upon our gaming machines of choice, we dreamt of owning a copy of Jumanji. What, you mean you didn’t? Despite that board game being horrifying and potentially deadly, I always thought how fun it would be to summon an entire jungle with the roll of a dice, especially if I were playing with Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst. And now, thanks to rumors of a Jumanji reboot mentioned by Doug Belgrad, President of Columbia Pictures, supernatural board game films may no longer be a genre of the past.
