BSG’s Katee Sackhoff To Play Karen Gillan’s Mom In Her First Post-Doctor Who Movie Gig

When fandoms collide, it’s (usually) a beautiful thing. I think it’s safe to say that applies to this news. Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff has been cast in Karen Gillan’s first movie gig after her run on Doctor Who. And get this, Sackhoff is playing Gillan’s mom. As if that wasn’t enough to get you to keep reading, how about the possibility of Gillan playing a role in Inspector Spacetime?

Here’s Episode One of the Inspector-Spacetime-in-Everything-but-Name Inspector Spacetime Webseries

I’m never really sure who Inspector Spacetime appeals to more, Doctor Who fans, or Community fans. Oop! Things We Saw Today: Inspector Spacetime Travels Through Space…and Time

Inspector Spacetime is a show we spend far too much of our time wishing was actually a show we could watch. We’re not entirely sure we’ve accepted the fact that it is not (for now). Which is why we’re glad when the internet humors us, as with this awesome fan art mocking up a poster of the Inspector and company. As Dan Harmon himself said when he saw it (and reblogged it), “this is really really really cool.” (via Dan Harmon)

Bloody Good Fun

London Covered in Artistic Callboxes in Greatest Unintentional Tribute to Inspector Spacetime Ever

So, you know the Cow Parade, the international roving art installation where fiberglass cows are painted and decorated by local artists? Well, BT Artbox is kind of like that. Except instead of cows, it’s the classic red telephone box of the UK, Malta, Bermuda, and Gibraltar, and they’re all over London, as if Inspector Spacetime and several dozen of his buddies dropped in to see the sights.

The boxes themselves are beautifully surreal things to come across in the middle of an otherwise normal city street. (Doctor Who fans, just squint and pretend they’re police boxes.)

Karen Gillan Talks About Her Love For Community’s Doctor Who Spoof, Inspector Spacetime

You remember when the NBC show Community spoofed the BBC’s Doctor Who with their show within a show called Inspector Spacetime? First it got popular enough to have a web series (not affiliated with NBC) made. Then the hopeful creators of that webs series got sued by NBC. But, as Community lives on (for the time being), so does Inspector Spacetime and it turns out one Doctor Who star is a big fan. The BBC recently chatted with Karen Gillan just before she filmed her last episode of the long-running sci-fi show, and the actress described how she came to find out about Inspector Spacetime and even hinted at wanting them to hire her. The BBC thinks it’s a delightful idea and is trying to start a campaign with the hashtag #AmyMeetsAbed. Now watch Gillan being completely adorable in this video.

Unsurprising News of the Day: Inspector Spacetime Webseries Sued Into Oblivion By NBC

Doctor Who fan and Community fan Travis Richey must have been through the roof when he got the small part of playing the lead in a very short joke on Community. One where Abed needed a new television show to be obsessed with and, in desperations, his friends showed him Inspector Spacetime, a half-century old, nearly continuously running low budget science fiction show about a mysterious humanoid alien travels through space and time in machine that looks like a London phone booth but is bigger on the inside.

Well, at least we’re pretty sure he was excited, because after the overlapping Community and Doctor Who communities started, completely of their own volition, to flesh out the fake-universe of Inspector Spacetime, he decided that it would be really cool if somebody could actually produce more episodes of the series. So, naturally, he started a Kickstarter project.
