Hello Kitty and Kiss are Teaming Up to Make Us an Animated Show

There’s no doubt that people like to take the distinctive silhouette of Hello Kitty and wrap it in the colors and accessories of other media properties, particularly ones with tones wildly divergent from “cute animal people doing cute things.” Sometimes those mashups are even created by Sanrio themselves, like when they created Hello Kitty merchandise in the likeness of each member of the band KISS.

And now, as Sanrio partners with KISS and The Hub television channel for Kiss Hello Kitty, a cartoon show, announced today, which is apparently already in production.

Geeks never pass up an opportunity to integrate their fandoms into their everyday lives. Whether we’re pouring our coffee into a Green Lantern mug at work, sporting a Sailor Moon hoodie at the gym or driving around with nerdy decals, bumper stickers and custom license plates on our cars, we love what we love, and we’re not afraid to show it. Former theme park designer Jenn Fujikawa and licensed attorney Giulia Palermo have taken their adoration for all things geeky one step further – into the kitchen, paying homage to their fandoms with food.

Cartoon Characters Aren’t So Funny When They’re Skeletons

But they sure are interesting to look at. Artist Michael Paulus shows us classic cartoon characters as we’ve never seen them before – as skeletons. In his series “Character Study,” Paulus looked at characters that have been around for decades with a scientific eye. He writes, “I decided to take a select few of these popular characters and render their skeletal systems as I imagine they might resemble if one truly had eye sockets half the size of its head, or fingerless-hands, or feet comprising 60% of its body mass.” The results are a little macabre but definitely cool. You can purchase prints and originals in his Etsy shop.

7th Grade Girls Send Hello Kitty to the Edge of Space, Make Cool Video

Well, this sure makes me want to do some science this weekend. 7the graders at Cornerstone Christian school performed this experiment on “the effects of altitude on air pressure and temperature.” And presumably also on a Hello Kitty doll inside a lovingly spray-painted rocket ship.

You will be assimilated. In my stomach. A Hello Kitty/Star Trek Borg mash-up is surprising enough but this is a cake. Laura from El Laboratorio de las tartas created this delicious creature but the best part of the whole story is, “Unfortunately, the birthday girl was not as familiar with the franchise and confused with Terminator Kitty.” Birthday girl remains awesome.
