Dark Horse Is Hosting A Hellboy Summer Camp This Year

Something tells me Hellboy’s provisions for camping would differ from your regular wilderness survivor. For one, not many people would take a hand gun with, let alone one named Big Baby. But I’ll be damned if he couldn’t start a fire faster than anyone (because he’d have a lighter with him). Regardless, picturing Hellboy camping is exactly what Dark Horse Comics wants you to do this summer. They’re opening a Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense training camp in Oregon for kids 9-17.

10 Of Our Favorite Incestuous Relationships

So we decided to do a grid about incest, because who doesn’t love incest?

…Okay, everybody. Everybody doesn’t love incest.

Despite incest being one of the most universal* cultural taboos in world history (right up there with cannibalism!), we sure like incest in our fiction. In folklore, where the Greek and Egyptian pantheons are founded on incestuous couples, and incestuously romantic or born heroes abound, not to mention all the examples (or near examples) from the Bible. And we like to put it in our popular culture as well! Sometimes we’re subtle or wishy washy about it, sometimes it’s a great big squickfest.

Things We Saw Today: A Veritable Treasure Trove of ’90s Nick Fan Art

This particular piece is only one of many nostalgia-rific works of fan art based on ’90s Nickelodeon shows on Fanartica’s Tumblr page. I’d cross my fingers for some Roundhouse art, but no one seems to want to remember it these days … sigh.

There Might Be a Hellboy 3, According to Its Director and Star

Despite Ron Perlman‘s vow to never go through the makeup process again, he and director Guillermo del Toro both seem to feel that it might just be worth it to do a third Hellboy movie. The comments came during Comic Con, where del Toro was quick to point out that his projects are not always made over a short period of time. But both director and actor seem to agree that there is still more story to tell, and honestly, how do we move on when the second movie left us hanging? With twin Hellboy babies?

10 Greatest Fighters of Fictional Nazis

A certain imminent movie release got us thinking about Nazis, and how, unusually, for an actual historical movement, they’ve developed into the kind of perfect narrative scapegoat that’s normally reserved for entities of entirely fictional origin.

Which is not to say they don’t deserve it, because they do. Overwhelmingly so. It makes perfect sense that they’re right up there with zombies, demons, and non-sentient robots as entities that heroes are allowed to be absolutely brutal to without catching flack for it or otherwise in some way exploring the moral consequnces of their actions.

Guillermo del Torro Still Not Doing Hellboy III, Might Somehow Do Maleficent

Dear Hollywood, please just let Guillermo Del Toro do whatever he wants. Even if it seems like there aren’t enough hours in one person’s lifetime to do every film they set their mind to. It appears the lack of hours is why he’s not coming back to make a third movie for the Hellboy. Sadface.  There is some potentially awesome news on the horizon, though: del Toro is expressing interest in directing a film centered around Maleficent, Sleeping Beauty’s arch nemesis and arguably the most badass of the Disney villainesses (I mean, she was totally the Big Bad of Kingdom Hearts until the inevitable revelation of the true Big Bad).
