Last-Minute Way to Give: Chicken Sweaters and Other Gifts for Both Animals and Humans

In the spirit of whatever holiday you celebrate, Mental Floss has some — 12, actually — great idea for gifts that are definitely better than a contribution to The Human Fund: clothing for animals. (Some are actually for humans!) “But why would chickens need clothes?” you might ask yourself. Well, some hens who have been neglected or abused lose their feathers because of the stress. And these little sweaters help keep them warm until their feathers grow back. If you visit Little Hen Rescue, you’ll find a pattern for knitting sweaters for chickens.

Other organizations include The Snuggles Project (blankets for shelter animals), Afghans for Afghans, and Project Linus (“security” blankets for needy children).

Here Are Some Things to Do With Leftover Wrapping Paper

Consider this a pre-emptive strike against your impending post-holiday mess: Things to do with leftover wrapping paper. And we are here to help you, because whether it’s used and ripped apart or you’re just really not into wasting the scraps of paper that couldn’t be used for wrapping, there is, indeed, a use for your surplus wrapping paper. And if you’re wondering if Martha Stewart might be involved in this, you are going to be very, very happy after the jump.
