In the spirit of whatever holiday you celebrate, Mental Floss has some — 12, actually — great idea for gifts that are definitely better than a contribution to The Human Fund: clothing for animals. (Some are actually for humans!) “But why would chickens need clothes?” you might ask yourself. Well, some hens who have been neglected or abused lose their feathers because of the stress. And these little sweaters help keep them warm until their feathers grow back. If you visit Little Hen Rescue, you’ll find a pattern for knitting sweaters for chickens.
Other organizations include The Snuggles Project (blankets for shelter animals), Afghans for Afghans, and Project Linus (“security” blankets for needy children).
