These Singing Russian Grandmothers Saved Their Village [Video]

Remember those awesome Russian grandmothers who qualified to perform at the European pop music contest Eurovision? They placed second, and  it turns out their local government was so thrilled with their international success, it decided to build a new water pipeline, install streetlights, lay new gravel on the roads, and install high-speed Internet for the village’s only school. Awesome! Here’s a video of there Eurovision performance — I can only hope to be half as cool as these grannies when I get older.

Really, if you saw a video about a grandmother chasing some obnoxious teenagers with a lightsaber, would you ignore it? Of course not. Especially with what this grandmother does with that lightsaber.

Russian Singing Grannies Suggest “Party For Everybody,” We Concur [Video]

We here at The Mary Sue hope you will take this video and make it your weekend anthem. These sx ladies are known as the Buranovskiye Babushki (translation: the Buranovo Grannies). They were the winners of the Russian National final and are on to represent their country in the competition this year in May. According to the BBC, “The lyrics to the song, which feature a mixture of English and Udmurt – a language related to Finnish – were written by the grandmothers.” PARTY FOR EVERYBODY!

The World’s Oldest Yoga Teacher Is This 91-Year-Old Great-Grandmother (Says Guinness)

The Official Definitive Authority on the Extreme, Guinness World Records, has found the world’s oldest yoga teacher — or at least, as both Jezebel and the Associated Press point out, the world’s oldest yoga teacher who was available to fill out the proper documentation: 91-year-old Bernice Bates! This ultra-healthy great-grandmother teaches yoga at her retirement home in Florida and can do that pose above (boat pose), which is a lot harder than it looks. Seriously, let’s celebrate Bernice Bates today. She can do that, plus she’s helping her peers live a more comfortable, flexible life. Namaste!

So, this exists: Crosby’s, a Canadian company that produces molasses, has been running a campaign featuring a bunch of sweet-faced grandmothers using dirty, dirty double entendres to sell their products. Now, there was some worry that maybe these women had no idea what their image was being used for, a lot like that episode of Friends when Joey (Matt LeBlanc) found out a photo of him was being used for a VD ad without his knowledge. But then, in addition to the print ads, there was also a video.
