Not all that glitters is gold

The 2012 Golden Globe Winners

If you’d like to know why the Internet thinks that Tommy Lee Jones is Grumpy Cat, then I have an informative little post for you right here, with all the funny stuff from last night’s broadcast. But if you’d just like to know who won, then read on! Spoilers: some people didn’t. Like, you might want to steer clear of the Benedict Cumberbatch tag on Tumblr for a few days…

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Get Their Golden Globe On, Lets Watch

This video will enable you to have conversations about the funny jokes in the Golden Globes today even if you didn’t watch it. (For one tiny piece of context, the clip that starts at about the two minute mark took place just after Lena Dunham was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Comedy over fellow nominees Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Zooey Deschanel, and Julia Louise-Dreyfus, and thanked her fellow nominees for being some of her biggest role models (and also for “getting her through middle school.”)

But it wasn’t just Tina and Amy who were in fine form last night. In case you’re wondering why everybody’s talking about Tommy Lee Jones and Grumpy Cat today, here’s why:

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Talk Golden Globes, Imaginary Conversations with Angelina Jolie

Somebody managed to edit out all the interview questions from this clip, but leave in all the awkward post-answer pauses. Somehow this only makes Fey and Poehler more funny.

Benedict Cumberbatch, The Hunger Games, Other Geek-Friendly Things Pick Up Golden Globe Nominations

This morning saw the announcement of the nominees for the 2013 Golden Globe Awards, the lighter, boozier, less important cousin of the Oscars. (Hey, it makes a difference that attendees can drink at the former but not the latter.) Typical awards season films like Lincoln and Silver Linings Playbook picked up plenty of noms, but so did some more niche-interest (read: Geeky) fare.

The awards show, taking place on January 13th, is being hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. They did a short video promoting the Globes, which you can check out under the jump along with a rundown of the geeky movies, people, and shows to be nominated.

Kristen Wiig Said There Won’t Be a Bridesmaids Sequel, So Universal Can Stop Trying to Make One Now

Not one of the people who made Bridesmaids a success last year supported a sequel to the comedy hit, the only saving grace for the idea being the return of every single person from the original. Well, the woman responsible for the movie existing in the first place, Golden Globe nominee Kristen Wiig, has put the nail in the coffin, saying there will not be another matrimonial outing. So, let’s please stop throwing around the idea that this will happen, with or without her. Okay? Okay.

Peter Dinklage On His Golden Globe, Legitimizing Fantasy & The Mistreatment of Dwarves

Peter Dinklage is now two-for-two in his television award wins. The HBO Game of Thrones actor won an Emmy back in September of 2011 for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his take on Tyrion Lannister. Now, Dinklage has picked up a Golden Globe for the same thing and used the platform to speak out about something very important to him.

Ricky Gervais Was On The Golden Globes For 11 Minutes [VIDEO]

Did you happen to watch the Golden Globes last night? Oddly enough, I completely forgot they were on so it’s nice that the internet has obliged us by posting tons of clips from it already. Controversial host Ricky Gervais was on all of eleven minutes of the three-hour long broadcast (about a minute and a half less than last time). That’s not out of the ordinary really but we figured, if you didn’t care about sitting through the whole thing or listening to (mostly) boring speeches, you might still want to see if he wound up saying anything worse than last year. Above is a best-of video from last night’s show. You can watch his entire eleven-minute stint here if you’d like to view the rest. Or you could just watch The Ricky Gervais Show, which had a marathon over the weekend and had me laughing the entire time.
