G.I. Joe: Retaliation

Will Masters of the Universe Reboot Have The Power To Make He-Man Cool Again?

Let’s be honest here, I’m a She-Ra kind of gal but He-Man is certainly one of those 80s icons I appreciate (and not only for his awesome dance moves). But like most beloved childhood franchises, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is prime for a reboot and it just so happens to already be in the works. G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu is taking up the Sword of Grayskull.

I Guess I Can't Argue With That

The New “Ninja Turtles” Movie Shut Down by Paramount, Release Date Moved to 2014

Probably because of karmic reparations for angering fans, pre-production on the new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie has been shut down by Paramount, which has also pushed the planned December 2013 release date back to May 2014. Not surprisingly, the issue is said to be with the script — a script for a TMNT reboot that has abandoned the original story so much that it’s basically another movie that is just borrowing the TMNT name because no one could think of anything better. I’ll pretend to be upset about this right after I stop laughing.

Here’s A Trailer For A Justice League Movie

Don’t nerd rage at me, this is awesome. Youtube user SouperboyX started work on a Justice League fan trailer before Warner Bros. announced that they were relaunching their Justice League movie project (and starting production on tons of other character films). He writes, “Here we basically have a ‘Suicide Squad/VRA/Brainiac Invasion’ type thing going on here. Probably what would be the three main acts of a film.” He includes footage from several recent DC films and television shows including the Wonder Woman pilot, Green Lantern, The Dark Knight Rises, and Smallville. And is that some G.I. Joe: Retaliation I see thrown in for added effect? Possibly some Transformers too? I’d see it. What about you?

Nope. Still Not Happening.

Want to Find Out the Real Reason G.I. Joe: Retaliation Is Being Delayed?

You may have heard that G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which was set to premiere a little over a month from now on June 29, was suddenly pushed back to March 29, 2013. Even after Paramount had already started advertising it, and not subtly. As in, there were commercials on TV, during the Super Bowl, and posters outdoors, and Hasbro already had the toys on the shelves. Paramount’s stated reason? They were going to add 3D effects to it. But the real reason? Well, imagine you have this party to attend, but you had a huge zit on your chin, and you popped it, and it’s a big hot mess. Now, imagine that zit is Channing Tatum, and the party is G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

Hollywood Weirdness of the Day: Imminent G.I. Joe Sequel Pushed Back Nine Months

We haven’t done a lot of coverage of G.I. Joe: Retaliation here, for a number of reasons. None of the editors are huge fans of G.I. Joe, so it’s difficult to write about it with knowledge. The first movie… uh… was not considered to be that great. And while I found the trailer really amusing, with its transparent excitement over having Bruce Willis in the movie, it wasn’t amusing enough to get me interested in the movie.

But now G.I. Joe: Retaliation has done something really interesting, really inexplicable, and quite possibly really stupid. Yesterday, Retaliation was one month and five days from release. Today, it is ten months and four days from release.
