Dora the Explorer

There's an appa for that

Avatar: The Legend of Dora the Explorer

Dora’s here to remind everybody that Korra wasn’t the first woman of color Nickelodeon gave a series to, and she’d like a taste of that sweet, sweet bending too. And come on: when was the last time you learned a new language watching Avatar? “Flameo, Hotman,” doesn’t count.

I Want to Believe

Another Day, Another Dora the Explorer Action Movie

Remember that…M for mature, to say the least, live action Dora The Explorer spoof? In the same spirit of corrupting the childhoods of children everywhere, College Humor has gifted the world with a trailer for the live action thriller  Dora The Explorer: The Search For The Infinity Orb. File this under movies we sort of totally wish were real. Ariel Winter, know as Alex Dunphy on the ABC comedy Modern Family, plays Dora. If only all children’s TV shows were this cool.

If Dora Was Dovahkiin

Dann Matthews has transposed some syllables slightly to great effect, and if you like you can buy it here.

Is there a Skyrim mod that plays Dora sound effects when you bring up the map or your bag storage?

(If you don’t get this, follow me behind the jump, where I will explain it until it’s not funny anymore.)

Bloody Good Fun

You Wouldn’t Like Dora The Explorer When She’s Grown Up And Angry

It’s safe to say this is one Dora the Explorer video I won’t be showing my young nieces. The folks behind Greenstorm Film have put a spoof together that shows us just what could happen to a little girl who was made to talk to monkeys and repeat things day after day after day. Poor Dora needs a good therapist.

This is hilarious, albeit slightly scary, but it really makes me wonder what Dora would be like in a zombie apocalypse…

British MP Calls Attention to the Scourge of “Pink and Princessy” Girls on TV

British MP Jo Swinson has spoken on the floor of Parliament to shed light on the dearth of strong female characters who are not outwardly girly, frilly, flowery, etc. all that ooey-gooey sugar stuff that makes us long for shows like Beetlejuice and Animaniacs. It is her belief — and we share it — that these shallow characters do nothing to help the self-esteem of young girls. Not only that, but as much as two thirds of all the characters in children’s programming are male characters. There isn’t much Parliament can do about it, but the point has been made: someone in a relatively high position is looking out for the next generation of girls.
