  4. Seeing Dawn of the Planet of the Apes This Weekend? Watch This Pug Puppy Version First.

    Why Milk-Bone rocket?

By most accounts Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, out in theaters today, is a pretty excellent movie—it has a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. And while I'm thrilled that it's apparently replicated the quality of its predecessor Rise of the Planet of the Apes, I remain skeptical that it can surpass the sheer brilliance of this Pet Collective parody. Two words: Baby. Pug. Two more words: Pug. Stampede. Your move, Matt Reeves.

  7. New Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Trailer Has Gary Oldman Screaming “They’re Aaaanimals!”

    DO WANT

Everything else is irrelevant. There’s another, slightly different, new trailer under the jump, but Gary Oldman doesn't scream “They’re Aaaanimals!" in it, so it's inferior.

  9. The First Trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Looks Promising

    And So It Begins

By which I mean there's not a whole lot to it, but Rise of the Planet of the Apes was excellent and there's a brief shot of Gary Oldman shooting something, so bring it on. Bring it on like Donkey Kong. (via: Indiewire) Are you following The Mary Sue on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, & Google +?

  11. Planet of the Apes Fan Judy Greer Lives the Dream, Is Cast as the Female Ape Lead in Rise of the Planet of the Apes

    Mutatis Mutandis

I'm just going to go ahead and put the best part of Judy Greer's interview with Vulture about her Apes casting right up front: "It's funny, because when I talk to my [Planet of the Apes-obsessed] husband about the movie, he's like, 'I don't want to know! I do want to know! Do you think you should tell me? Don't tell me!" Poor guy.

  12. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Casts Gary Oldman as the Leader of the Human Resistance

    Officially Official

A fair number of big news items have popped up today. The Hobbit is being pushed back by five months. Tim Curry will be in The Clone Wars. Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe have some interesting post-Potter films lined up. But there's only one thing that made me squeal at my computer. And that's that Gary Oldman has joined the cast of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. This was my reaction.

  13. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Casts Jason Clarke As Its New James Franco

    Officially Official

We already knew that James Franco probably wouldn't be facing off against any damn dirty apes in Matt Reeves' Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the sequel to 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes. And now we know who'll be fulfilling the role of ostensible-lead-because-they're-human-but-really-we-all-know-Andy-Serkis-is-the-star-here: Zero Dark Thirty's Jason Clarke.

  14. James Franco Might Not Be In Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, But As Long As Andy Serkis Is Still There We’re Cool

    I'll Allow It

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes might find itself James Franco-less. In an interview with MTV, the Rise of the Planet of the Apes star has said that he might not be in the movie's sequel at all, or if he is, it might be in a very small role. I'm OK with that. I don't think anyone came out of the (surprisingly good) Rise of the Planet of the Apes, saying "Man, that James Franco did a good job." I mean, he did. I think he did. I don't really remember. The majority of my post-Rise thoughts were more along the lines of "Andy Serkis, YOU ARE A GIFT!"
