  2. Selina Kyle and Whedon Win at the 39th Annual Saturn Awards

May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor

The 39th Saturn Awards were yesterday and it appears that Joss Whedon will be keeping his title as sci-fi, fantasy, and horror royalty.  Whedon won Best Director for Marvel's The Avengers, beating out Ang Lee, Christopher Nolan, Peter Jackson, William Friedkin, and Rian Johnson. Meanwhile, The Avengers won best science fiction film and Cabin in the Woods won in the best Horror/ Thriller category.  The Avengers just kept winning, with actor Clark Gregg winning best supporting actor for his role as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Coulson. The Dark Knight Rises picked up only one win, Best Supporting Actress, for Anne Hathaway's much-loved turn as Catwoman. The odds were also in Jennifer Lawrence's favor, and she won Best Actress for her work in the first installment in The Hunger Games series.

  3. Westeros Gets Classical With This Game of Thrones Cosplay Piano Cover [Video]

Winter is coming -- and so is a dramatic key change at the bridge.

Stan Lee's World of Heroes recently began putting out an awesome new series of videos called Cosplay Piano, in which award-winning pianist Sonya Belousova sits down and performs covers of your favorite nerdy theme songs while dressed in relevant costumes. Director Tom Grey's outdone himself with this latest vid, which takes the theme song from Game of Thrones and ratchets up the awesomeness with multiple costume changes and a back-up band of Petyr Baelish, Jon Snow, and a surprisingly angel-voiced Orell the Wildling. Also, dragons. Dragons make everything better.

  4. Meow: Watch Catwoman Cosplay Piano

    Holy Rusted Metal Batman!

It's not nearly as dynamic or adventurous as The Walking Dead Cosplay Piano video but in episode two, we do get to see what it would be like if Catwoman was a talented pianist and hear Danny Elfman's lovely Batman score, and that's entertaining enough for me. 6. Tim Burton Returning to Stop-Motion Animation Again — This Time With Seth Grahame-Smith

    Peanut Butter and Chocolate

After working on Dark Shadows together, Tim Burton and Seth Grahame-Smith will reunite for the former's return to the ooky-spooky land of stop-motion animation. It's yet another project the new dynamic duo will be working on in addition to a possible Beetlejuice sequel. We like this friendship! It's not just peanut butter and chocolate -- it's peanut butter, chocolate, and cinnamon.

  7. Oscars: Plenty of Time for Cirque du Soleil; Still no Time for Two Musical Performances

it's time to play the music

Okay, we don't mean this as a dig to Cirque Du Soleil. All in all, we think they're pretty cool. But you can't talk about the Muppets and Cirque Du Soleil in the same post without bringing up Cirque Du So Lamé, the cancelled Muppet Show act that an outside contractor proposed for the Muppets in Its A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie, a.k.a. It's a Wonderful Life but with Kermit the Frog, a.k.a. No, I Just Have Something In My Eye, Okay? For the record, it referred to the metallic fabric. Moving along! The good news is that Kermit and Piggy are confirmed presenters at this year's Oscars. The other news is that even though the Oscars decided that it didn't have time in its broadcast for the meagre two musical numbers it nominated for Best Song, it does have time for a Cirque Du Soleil performance.

  8. Boba Fett Playing Geek Anthems on an Accordion [Video]

it's time to play the music

Who is this masked man playing Legend of Zelda's "Ocarina of Time" on the accordion on New York City streets? He is Nathan Stodola, and when he's not trying to figure out how to find more efficient ways to engineer public transit, he is regaling passers-by with various geek-friendly theme songs, like Danny Elfman's Batman, Super Mario Brothers, Megaman, and Back to the Future.
