Stars Shine At The Iron Man 3 Red Carpet But Robert Downey Jr. Doesn’t Wear Anything Fun

Last night we posted a livestream of the Iron Man 3 premiere from the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. Today, Disney has graciously shared some images from the red carpet and after party. I guess I was spoiled by Robert Downey Jr. in lederhosen but I’m a little let down he didn’t wear anything wacky. Take a look at the stars from the film and see who else popped up from the Marvel Universe.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. Pilot Got Filmed, So Lets Hear Joss Whedon Talk About it Some More

Well, the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot has wrapped, so now it’s just time for waiting, right? Surely there isn’t any more information on the show that we can milk out of Joss Whedon and crew, so let’s just await its inevitable greenlighting as a full series, filming, and finally… its airing on television.

Oh, who are we kidding, Whedon’s going to be answering questions about S.H.I.E.L.D. for the next year. This round, he talks about Marvel characters, Cobie Smulders, and the series’ overall tone.

Avengers Alternate Opening Is Like the Opening to Avengers 2

Marvel has put this alternate opening scene of The Avengers online for the viewing, as part of its ongoing campaign to get people psyched for the DVD release of the movie (which could have just been accomplished by officially releasing the blooper reel, I mean, come on), and it’s totally understandable that this didn’t make it into the final film. It places the film in an entirely different sort of narrative loop by beginning with the end, and more than that, it’s completely at odds with the tone of the rest of the movie. The Avengers was big, bombastic, optimistic, and blissfully consequence free (aside from a certain S.H.I.E.L.D agent and his friends).

What this scene, chock full of Cobie Smulders, feels more like is the opening scene or the teaser trailer for The Avengers 2, a movie that plays up the tension between Smulders’ Maria Hill and Samuel L. Jackson‘s Nick Fury, in the lead up to the director being removed from his command just when the world needs him most.

The German trailer for The Avengers followed the basic format of the one we got here in the United States (with some added Stark snark) but another just released from Japan gives us some new, delicious scenes. Cobie Smulders character Maria Hill gets to talk! And Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye gets to do stuff AND talk. And is that S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Helicarrier I see…

Cobie Smulders Gets Into the Role of Maria Hill for Avengers

I hired this amazing black-ops trainer to teach me how to hold a gun, take me to a shooting range, how to hit, how to hold myself, how to walk and basically how to look. I don’t do a ton of fighting in the movie, which is why I wasn’t offered a trainer, but I wanted to look like I had the ability to. And I really just got down and dirty with the character. – Cobie Smulders, whose portrayal of S.H.I.E.L.D. agent (and in comics, director) will see the big screen next summer in The Avengers.

Smulders may not have been offered the chance for on screen action, but we’re impressed by her devotion to learning the ropes of an action character’s backstory just to add weight to her scenes. Maria Hill is a controversial figure in the Marvel universe, who has found herself pitted against heroes like the Avengers as much as she has worked alongside them.
